It’s the old debate that pops up every now and then.

I think all would agree the QAFL is different to the footy down south, due to climate and ground sizes which are generally fairly big in comparison to Melbourne grounds in particular. Therefore it tends to be quicker footy up here.

The top end in strong comps such as O&M would be similar or possibly a touch stronger (maybe?) but I’m pretty certain depth wise the QAFL is a lot stronger than the country leagues, through mainly sheer weight of numbers, so overall I think it would be overall slightly QAFL higher.

I saw on the AFL website that QLD is now second to VIC now surpassing WA in terms of playing participants, and unlike down south, the QAFL is the only comp at a good standard, it drops off pretty quickly.
Agree,,,

hUGE GET FOR SURFERS ...HAVE RECRUITED DAVID SWALLOW

Yep, great recruit to the Grand Finalists.

Noosa picking up some quality depth players too. They may climb up the ladder.

Morningside have two big bookend recruits in Buzza and Dawson.

Palmy being Palmy. Looking to have a strong list.

Early stages it appears Redlands holding some guns.

Aspley with the Bastinac brothers.

Not seeing much recruiting news at Grange or Sherwood.

Hearing Ryan Burton (ex Port and Hawks player) and now at Southport will align with Grange. And agree Surfers have recruited beautifully and Minogue would just top them off.
Noosas depth will be much better, our reserves have been uncompetitive since entering the QAFL so have strategically recruited that way. Losing Conn to Corowa(FIFO) hurts so chasing a gun on baller! Numbers on track have been excellent👍

So after hearing about the Carrara FC debacle between the cricket club and AFL club. As well as the junior and senior split at Park Ridge.

Guess my question is. How much say or control does the local/city council have on clubs? What are the differences between say Sunny Coast council and Moreton Bay council compared to Brissy and GC?

Rates? Ground Lease? Construction?

Cricket are the boss over summer months on the GC meaning no boots on the ground (up to Round 1) and the cricket get first use of the oval, so if they want centre wicket practice for example then that’s what happens.

It’s a challenge but overall thankfully fairly harmonious at the Cats with ground sharing

Couple of good signings by the Roos especially Papst who from all reports is a very good player indeed.I see one of the Okeefe boys has signed at Noosa and one at the Roos???
Still no word on where star forward Josh Minogue is playing but I’m sure the Gold Coast clubs would be all over it!

signed at surfers

Good luck to Cameron James with one of the toughest gigs in footy. He's bringing a lot of positivity to the Mt Gravatt role and is confident the Vultures can win their first senior game since 2023.

Coming from a long way back. Very hard when they have been non competitive for two years and most other teams topping up with elite recruitment. Not sure who they can beat even if they have a good day and a team is way off.

The problem will be trying to build if the losing streak extends to 3 years. Good luck to Cam and all involved but massive task.

Great signing by Surfers and I’d think will be right in the mix when the whips are cracking in September. A Tuesday,Thursday,Saturday footy club with low junior numbers and no pokie revenue going great guns! 👍
Agree - a very good football club looking from the outside. Good model for others.

Agree GK. Moore an outstanding leader and footy person. Pretty sure Sam Dwyer(ex Collingwood and Port Melbourne) actually Sth Warnambool boy coaches Surfers and doing a ripping job👍

Article mentions ?longest losing streak in QAFL. Not the longest losing streak in QAFL. Western Magpies (Sherwood) lost 42 in a row (last 6 games in 2003 before relegated and winless in 2009 and 2010). Mounties won last game in Round 15 2023, so I reckon they have lost 41 in a row
Any updates on this ?
