Renewed energy from Aspley to run hard at the ball and the Morningside players, and win a closely fought game. Being an Aspley member I'd better not repeat what the coach said at quarter time, but it was very memorable. Stand-out best player for Aspley was ruckman Will Wolbers, and for Morningside 43 Shaquille McLeod. Excellent games for Aspley by Cody Stackelberg, Ray Hill (should stop them from dropping him again), Liam Dawson, Tom Templeton and Joel Leahy (both nearly always unsung heroes). Daine Macdonald is also playing very well and in my opinion was Aspley's best player against Wilston Grange last week.
 
Super win by the Cats today conceded the first 4 goals and were down 2 players in the first 15 mins, including the back up ruck with Bowman called up to sharks. Young fellow concussed on debut in an incident that will be looked at.

Anyway was an excellent game of footy and proud of the grit the boys showed.

Palmy still favourites for the flag but the top 5 are super competitive.

Great win by surfers I actually tipped Noosa whoops

Cats win really makes it interesting with PBC losing to SP last week too. PBC could fall to 3rd depending on % with siders, RVP and PBC possibly all ending up on same points. Looks like it will be a real good finals series.

I heard that the Mount Gravatt under 18s had to supply a goal umpire because QAFL were unable to. Also their Division 1 women’s team had to supply a field umpire.

Has this happened to anyone else in a STATE league? Or just mount Gravatt?

Is this not equivalent to a “forfeited” game by a team? Do QAFL have something to answer for?
 
We often have not had boundary umps for reserves games this year. Shortages of umpires is obviously a big problem.

I agree though sometimes there’s not much you can do. Was regrettable forfeiting the colts last week, but despite best efforts we just couldn’t get enough players.

Personally I think the colts age needs to be put to 19.5 so players can have 2 years in that age group, given the youth football cutoff is 17.5

The umpiring fraternity has been seriously hampered by a bungled registration process I’ve been told which has cost them nearly 25 percent across the country. Clubs get refunds for games not being able to be filled by AFLQ. I reckon you’ve done pretty well just having to supply a colts Goal Umpire and a Div 1 Womens field! It would be fairly regular I would think.
I know at Noosa nearly every week in youth footy we are supplying most field umpires(club volunteers) due to the shortage👍

Happens a lot. I have seen a lot of colts/reserves games this year of where dads are in high vis doing boundary and goal umpiring.

Umpiring really is not that popular anymore, and fair enough. Nearly every game Ive been to I hear drunks at the clubs bars sledging the young umpires all game No wonder many kids are turning away from it.

Not sure why we haven’t run with no boundary umpires especially in lower grades and women’s footy like SA have for many years and works fine. Would save a few numbers there to be spread where needed as goal umpires and central umpires where required.

Haven't seen boundary umpires in any level below Div 1 and Div 2 senior mens in many years. Or in any community womens footy outside of finals.

Even Div 1 senior sides are having to get clubbies to run a boundary

would have supplied boundary umps at 50% of our home Colts games and several times in the Reserves as well.
