QAFL 2026

Aspley went down by 150+ to the Lions VFL side, any thoughts or just usual for the difference in qafl vs vfl?
Noosa had a slug fest in horrible conditions against a pretty physical Lions academy yesterday at Noosa eventually running out 4 or 5 goal victors. Colts and Development both played Caloundra outfits in what was a great day of local footy and a good crowd in attendance. The ground will definitely need a rest and the rain continues

Great to hear, mate. Hopefully not too long untill aussie rules becomes the number 1 sport on the sunny coast 😉

I would think the better QAFL sides or even Aspley from 3-4 years ago would get within 10 goals of a Lions VFL side particularly if they play a few Academy kids

Broadbeach played sharks about 5 years ago (when cats were strong ) and it was about 20 goals so shows the difference.

A part of it is that the VFL season started about 2-3 weeks earlier (NEAFL then) than QAFL so further along in preparation but mostly it’s just that there’s a massive difference in standard.

Banks smith won league medal 3 years ago went to Southport and was fringe.

But obviously a Lions/Suns VFL team with half a team of young fellas is a different scenario

Broady lost 143-9 if i recall correctly in 2021, I remember that one.

This was an U23 Lions, according to instagram

Not quite correct. McKenna not under 23 and he was out there. I only watched a little bit of it, but noticed Brain, Beecken, Answerth and Tunstill out there amongst others. I know that a couple of those are under 23, but they have had a good amount of time in an AFL system.
Aspley looked ok until the fitness level of a more professional outfit kicked in. You could certainly see the difference in fitness and skill level towards the end of the first quarter.

Agree with the top 4 (not necessarily the order) & the next 4 is probably right too. The only change I’d make is I think Noosa may be a handful, up at Weyba Rd in particular, hence I think they will challenge for finals at the very least.

I can see some big lopsided games with several clubs this year.
Unfortunately you most likely correct. The top 2-3 teams (with possible exception of Redland) have significantly improved and conversely it doesn’t seem like too many of the bottom half sides have.

Anyone got scores from sherwood vs coorparoo, Noosa vs vp, grange vs mounties?
Redlands beat Noosa by around 35 points. The Smaller and younger Tigers showed plenty of hunt, tackled well and never gave in but Redlands just bigger bodied and classier with the ball in hand particually by foot. Really good hit out for our boys. Our Reserves and Colts won comfortably and think our depth over the entire list will be much improved👍

The Vultures Colts lost their match in a shortened two-quarter game. The Vultures Reserves then took the field and had a strong performance, winning by 10 goals.

In the senior match, the Vultures were defeated by Grange 41–91. Although the Vultures won the second quarter by three goals, a slow start in the first quarter allowed Grange to build an early lead and remain comfortably ahead for the rest of the game.

I’d be pretty certain that Mt Gravatt can break the drought this year. Compared to the last couple seasons, they seem to have improved a fair bit.

Against Coops?

I am a little worried for Coorparoo, losing Jonah, Matt Suckling, Tyan Prindable, and is Kyle Dunkley even playing for them anymore?? I don't think they have signed a single QAFL senior standard player at all.

I think they beat Sherwood on the weekend, so doesn't bode well for either club!
Sherwood has also lost a lot of top-line talent over the past 2 seasons and hasn't recruited anyone this year.

The gap between mt gravatt, Sherwood, Coorparoo and the rest of the comp is just gonna be too big.

I'm thinking the big 4 be it palmy, redlands, surfers, morningside ...not in any order yet . from there its a fair gap
I think there's 5 which includes Labrador who I heard beat morningside last weekend

Surfers are no doubt favourites give their list and the additions off season . Swallow, Minouge , Tarlington, Simpson plus more. They look very good but I'm sure there may be points issues.

Palm Beach would be hopeful of a better showing but they will have points issues given the players they have recruited. Jones, Hickey, Casbolt, King, Gray etc etc .

Morningside will be strong but like Palmy they will have points issues with Buzza , Dawson & Howson and others .

Redland are going to be there about and haven't lost too many (need more intel) .

Labrador have recruited well apparently . Marshall, Goldsmith Rhook, Lord, Odea, Foonx2 etc

Maroochydore will be the 6th team and then there's the rest .

I hear Broady aren't much along with Sherwood as well So there's hope for the Kings and Vultures to get a few wins

will be haves and have nots

Broady, Aspley, Sherwood, Coorparoo, Grange and Mt Gravatt will be a very clear bottom 6 - though Broady I think at least grabbed a few SANFL blokes.

Aspley might not stay down long with their resources.
