Hey guys, I have just come back form a fleeting visit to melbourne and was just wondering what everyone thought of the service of Qanats compared with Virgin Blue.
I travelled one way with each and would have to say that the service was definitely much more friendly on Virgin compared with that of the service provided by the frumpy middle aged flight crew on Qantas.

Virgin is definitely better, the crew seem to actually enjoy being there and don't act like you're taking up their precious time like some Qantas cabin crew do.

The one flight I have taken with them was an abosolute pleasure.

Just booked another flight for 2 weeks time, hoping for the same service.

I was on Qantas coming back from the Philliphines, and want a magazine, they told me I could not have one because they dont give magazines to economy class!! The light on the seats did not work, overall they did not give a rats about me.

Screw Qantas, will never fly with them again.

I've travelled on both Qantas and Virginblue since the footy season began.

It was my first flight with VirginBlue, and I was very impressed by their customer service and even the little jokes the pilots and cabin crew would make etc.

Flew Qantas a couple of weeks ago and found that their standard of service had risen dramatically, compared to the few flights I took with them last year. That however may have been an aperition, so I will reserve judgement till next weekend. We are flying Qantas again next week.

I'm a bit put off by the "no frills" malarkey that Virgin Blue offer. The crusty shed at Melbourne Airport is pretty rank. The shopper dockets they call boarding passes would be easy to lose. How's this having to pay for head sets?
I hate having to walk out onto the tarmac and climb stairs to get onto the plane. I was on a crowded little plane and it was very squashy. I don't mind that they didn't feed me but at least that distraction makes a flight pass quicker. Personally I found the staff too friendly.

But I'd probably compare prices in the future and make my decision from there. Qantas is offering competitive fares to Brisbane for the footy next month so I'm happy to rack up the frequent flyer points instead.

As for headsets don't you own a set or earphones?
You think Melbourne's terminal is bad Adelaide's is even worse!

That is what I have been doing.

I found the best priced flights from Bris to Sydney on the Thursday before Easter were on Virgin so I flew with them that time (2 days notice).

Then 2 weeks ago I found the best priced Bris to Melb ones were on Qantas on 3 days notice - so I flew with them that time.

Now this time on 12 days notice - the best prices (by over $100 per person return) were on Qantas for the end of next week, so going Qantas again this time.

Looking on the net you can find some great deals, you just have to shop around and know where to look. I fly Qantas mainly for the benefits such as frequent flyer, and meals.

Are they standard connectors? I guessed they were those two pin point ones.

Danni I think I'll take your advice and hold off on booking for Melbourne to Brisbane next month. If you could get a good price right on Easter then I'm sure I can wait and see.

35 eye, just remember this:

Prices on Qantas red-e-deals, won't change, only the availability will. If you see the flights you would like now, take them, cause likely they will be gone soon and you will be left with crap flights to chose from.

Prices on Virgin will only go up from here.

When I know I am going to be travelling I tend to keep a daily eye on the prices. I am on a limited income so getting the best deal is important to me, or I just can't afford to go.

Btw, if you contact the person in my signature, she will happily source the best priced ones for you on both Qantas and Virgin, on a couple of occassions she has found cheap flights for other bigfooty members when we/they couldn't get them thru the net.

i have never flown with either of them, i use to fly with Ansett but well, yeah you know the story.

In 2 weeks though im going to Perth for the footy and we're flying with Virgin because we managed to score ourselves a couple of those $1 seats :D

the week after im going to tassie for the footy and we go on the boat over then we're flying with Virgin on the way back.

Will let you know what i think when i get back!

I must admit I have never flown with Qantas.......I used to fly with Ansett, then went with Virgin Blue.

I've found Virgin to be fantastic!!!!! I booked both my flight to and from Adelaide the night before departing, and the price was the same, have to say with Qantas, the later you book, the more 100's are added to the price. The Virgin staff are just soooooooo friendly and damn funny. Enjoyed all my flights with Virgin so will definitely be sticking with them. :)

last time i went to melbourne it was on virgin blue, it was fantastic and the main reason was the prices. i flew qantas last year and it was ok. Im flying home from melbourne after the long weekend on virgin, so it should be good.

I just booked another Virgin flight to Adelaide for next weekend.

Damn they're cheap in comparison to Qantas (especially at short notice). Qantas wanted to drag $800 out of me AND I had to go via Melbourne.

This had better be a good party.. and Sturt had better win or I am going postal.

For mine, which was also short notice, there was $500 difference between the cost on Virgin and Qantas. I was speechless.
