Rankine isn't the first professional athlete to be targeted both physically and mentally. He handled it stupidly.
But on the other hand - a 5 game suspension is stupid. Should be a fine and some community service.
Excellent idea, in fact a big fine, say $10K with $10K suspended (next offence costs $30K).
Community Service and Education.

That will have more impact on the player personally for a personal mistake and not punish the Club for their player's mistake.

Correct me if I'm reading this wrong but Darcy Moore 13 touches, and 13 Intercept Possessions. Does this mean that every single disposal he got was from us giving it to him?

Screenshot 2025-09-06 151443.png

With 13 intercept possessions does that technically mean we passed it to him effectively more often than any of the following?

Tex was our highest for marks too with 9, equalling Moore's Intercept Marks. So there's not a single Crow we successfully kicked to more than Moore.

Meanwhile Fog was doing absolutely nothing...he didn't think about putting some body on Moore??
Nope.

Ugly: booing Quaynor. Booing is a cowardly act. Anyone who defends that behaviour shows the bigotry that got Rankine suspended. That act is not passion, it's prejudice. That's not footy, that's being part of the problem.

Good: You've finished on top for a reason, get a massive win against the Hawks and then make the GF.

Bad: Nick's was terribly outcoached.

Good luck for the rest of the finals.

Sorry, but the question is disingenuous.
If it was a stranger next to me at a game I wouldn't have tolerated it for a couple of hours and probably would've done worse than Rankine's poor choice of abuse.

If I was a 100-game AFL player earning high, six-figure $s for playing, I'd have to ignore it --- or go mad, every week.

Those blokes see it, hear it, do it and cop it for a couple of hours every game, for years (and they know, a big deal is made of it in meetings and player education, that racism/homophobia are the big no-nos).
The better they are as players, the worse they cop.

It's a part of every game, every match-up, every 2 hours they're on the field and most give as good as they get.

People who boo Houston for his hit on Rankine last year (August 17th) have forgotten that Rankine did a nearly-identical blindside hit on Starcevich just under 6 weeks earlier (July 7th., concussed, taken off + Rankine got 4 games for that).

Rankine has dished it out previously, physically and verbally, and will likely get it back in spades because he's one of our best players.
Every time he loses control and crosses the line we lose him, for weeks; it's within his control and it's his responsibility to rein that shit in. Maybe after this, he will.
That's your problem buddy. Not mine. I've put up with abuse most of my life because of my light frame, but like you I am an old West Adelaide supporter and bought up with old addage that sticks and stone may break my bones but word will never hurt me. What goes on the field stays on the field in regards to what is said not actions. He served his penalty for past indistrection and I didn't condone it, but for me he was let down by the club who should have said to Dobbingwood prove it what he said. They didn't have to self report but this is this bloody goody two shoes policy they have.

We should still have Stengel, look at him now. Again that should have been handled differently.

Let me ask you, what would have the likes of Neil Kerly or any of the old blokes of yester year think of this world where you get more weeks for uttering one word instead of some one who king hits some one?

Oh the irony. What about the booing of Adam Goodes from well mostly Dobbingwood supporters and Eddie knows everything calling him a monkey. What a bunch of hypocrites. Get back to your own board.

Rankine's merely ran into Starcevich, he only went down because he's got such a soft head, It was nothing like Houston's hit. Your talking absolute shit.

Rankine's a dummy that's cost his team big time, but don't compare the Houston hit to the Starcevich thing, Rankine was was actually stiff to get the weeks he did.

I completely agree. I was hard on my own supporters when that happened too. And like the booing of Quaynor, I know its not the majority. But just like the booing of Goodes, should not condoned!

Personally find sniping blokes and putting them in hospital worse. Yet you cheer on Houston every week like a hero.

Has anybody got close ties with anyone-who-has-influence at the Club?
moogerfooger , do you?
Please, send that video analysis to Nicks/Davis. Please.

Sorry do not. I'm literally on the other side of the Pacific ;)

They would know all too well. I think our biggest issue wasn't so much not knowing what to do, it was panicking under pressure. Every good plan goes out the window.

It was pointed out to me last time I posted one of his videos that he's Jeff White, former #1 pick and Melbourne ruckman. He knows what he's talking about. Ironically the first video I saw of his was an analysis of our centre bounce dominance against Carlton.

Unfortunately a reasonably expected result. Many predicted it and well done 1970crow for being so close on the margin (I thought 2 goal loss but felt like 6).

Hopefully a few home truths - very disappointing display firstly, no doubt. The pressure like we hadn’t faced and was like 2012 QF vs Swans. We may have finished top but weren’t the best team in it despite some bathwater consumption. We had been regressing for weeks before Thursdays game. The teams 5-8 look as dangerous collectively as the top 4. And when you look at the incredible tightness of the top 8 it showed how easily ladder positions could have flipped (Hawks beat Lions last minor round - and they weren’t far off - finish 3rd not 8th). The Suns are building a dynasty team. Already with Anderson, Rowell, King, Miller, Andrew they have elite players. And that’s before their 8 first rounders from 2023-2025 with a majority top 10). They are going to cause lots of September pain I feel.

But the main one we all know….our midfield is not competitive against the best. Need to get NWM in 2 years which will be helped by Power sucking. Otherwise go and start making 1.5m offers to W Ashcroft etc. We have had a good list build but unless both Draper and Curtin end up elite mids - still a few years off - we need more in there to be competitive in finals.

50/50 with Hawks game. They normally beat us. Hopefully we get it done as will be painful going out in straight sets and not sure any minor premier has actually done that. Win and play a big prelim at the G and it’s been an excellent season.

McRae putting him and Quaynor in the same conversation might’ve been the most tone-deaf presser I’ve heard all year

Quaynor getting booed was shit, but only an oblivious idiot wouldn’t have known why Houston was booed

I hate being a crows fan. It's just continual disappointment over and over.
Only one team can win it every year. So 17 other teams are disappointed too. My son pointed out Geelong has made 10 prelims under Scott but only 3 GFs and winning 2. GFS are HARD to get in. Fagan took a long while of finals appearances before he made the GF. And they are limping in to their elimination final next week.

Also why go on about it, this ridiculous notion that we are going to be able to police the actions of every single person in the stadium needs to stop. Do I think booing Quaynor is childish and undignified? Yes. Your trying to control the emotions of a crowd of people who are losing their minds over a ball being kicked around by a load of people in their 20s and some of them teenagers.

There's no logic to football supporters and how we act and trying to police everything is just killing it for everyone and making them act out more.

Quilte true however I'd still like to be like them and continually make the finals and be a powerhouse instead of going up and down the ladder.

I mean, it starts and ends with this. It gives our supporters a reputation, like it or not

Yes, I get we shouldn’t care what others think of our club, but when it comes to issues like this, I kinda do

But again, that’s given the circumstances. Any other player should be fair game (and honestly, if what Thrillthorpe7 was saying is true, Quaynor should be as well. But the general public is gonna believe what they’re told)

This is literally the opposite of the Board zeitgeist in the late Craig and Sanderson era.... "We never bottom out for picks, we will always be around the mark but never get top end talent"

Then we do.....

It is true that we need to be patient with this current group, however it is also true that we are well and truly overdue for success.

It’d be great but it’s also extremely difficult. More teams have tried and failed to do that then have succeeded. Just look at Richmond, they’re managing their rebuild pretty well now, but what they did trying to stay at the top after their dynasty has probably set them back 2-3 years.
