I think before any changes are made to any divisions there needs to be a full forum with at least 2 representatives from each club to discuss and put forward opinions and options as to what the leagues should look like moving forward from QAFL to at least Div 2 and the Friday Night Competitions a different conversation.

I think clubs should be given opportunities to put forward their views and have voices heard at a forum before any changes made.

I think most would agree the competitions across all levels are bit out of whack.
Well the current structure has made it enticing for successful clubs to stay in their own division. GC hasn’t had representation in Div 1 since 2019.

I think the fact that Div 1 has 7 teams and Div 2 north has 12 has proven that the successful clubs stay successful for longer (Alex Hills, Redcliffe and Kenmore) and in the south comp (Burleigh, Cooly and Bond) whereas your lower end teams (Zillmere, Moorooka, Gympie, Wynnum) and (Coomera, Robina) struggle to compete year in.

I agree teams should have a say. But reality is. Teams who have won the GF either decide to stay in their division for more success (or because they will ‘lose’ all their players, which is such a wanky comment) or go up a division and struggle for a few years.

I just think next year. Top 2-3 of Div 2 north and south go into Div 1(that gives an 10-11 team comp). Middle of the pack in both comps go Div 2 (about 8)and the bottom 2-4 go div 3 (about 6-8)

Not bad for a bloke who reckons Logan City Pirates should play in the north comp because the south comp is too tough. Love the trip to “North Southport” to play the Pirates!

I agree with the way forward though. It needs to be a collaborative approach with club support, otherwise we’ll only see Friday night footy get even bigger

Division 1 is the issue. Moreton Bay, Sandgate and Hinterland all fairly recent inclusions, topping up a competitionwith teams from below weakens the comp, not strengthens it, adding more Div 2 teams will continue the trend.. in the same time Wynnum went up and then back and Beenleigh left.
The first 3 sides I mentioned all came from 'Div 2 North'. Without them Div 1 would have 4 teams and Div 2 North 15 teams.
How many flags have Alex Hills, Kenmore and Redcliffe each won in the past decade? Not the type of dominance that gets talked about on here.
Zillmere, Gympie, Wynnum and Moorooka are all clubs that joined the division with significant depth issues and will take good people, hard work and time to get consistently competitive.
There should never be a North/South split. Travel is part of it, Div 1,2,3 & 4/5 Fridays.
Mayne is an interesting one, dominating their lot with no real noise about going up.
Currently IMO a 13 team QAFL comp has diluted the talent across the board especially with a significant number of players leaving the QAFL ranks.
Tipping a restructure coming so who knows what 2027 will look like

I am not sure if you have tied to drive down the Pacific Hwy on a Saturday but certainly not pleasant considering you have a choice not to was main reason.

But apart from that it’s about putting your club where they are competitive which in Pirates case they are in right competition so not sure what your issue is with them being in right competition.

So you want them to go into a competition that everyone at club doesn’t want to be in and not be competitive, obviously you very well educated for this debate.

My comment on the removal of Colts and it's impact.
The fact is most don't continue with their footy and yes I don't have numbers but I can see it first hand.
The boys playing in div 2 and three 17s are not up to the jump to men's footy.
It's a huge step up for a kid of let's say limited ability to compete with men in a boys body.
If aflqs thought process was to think more players would transition to senior footy it's failed.
The story banded around for a while was participation and I ask has this move encouraged that.
Sure not every club can get a Colts team up but like every comp it changes year to year.
But there are enough clubs around to find a place to play with your mates.
If the boys were given a couple of years in Colts to develop and grow their body's I'm sure the retention rate would improve.
So what if you only have 12 or so clubs with Colts.
That's a couple few hundred lads still in footy and more likely to continue on in local footy.
But that's just my view and always open for debate.

One of the most stupid decisions AFLQ has made — forcing 18-year-old kids to either commit to a QAFL program or just play against fully developed men and not physically be able to compete. Absolutely shocking.

A lot of clubs out there could actually field a Colts team outside the QAFL system — Yeronga, Sandgate, Redcliffe, Wests, Kedron, etc.

No wonder the vast majority of kids give it away after U17s. AFLQ needs to understand that not every kid’s intention is to play QAFL Colts in the so-called “glorious” state league. Some just want to have a kick with their mates in a lower-pressure environment while still enjoying their footy.

Div 2 Ressies is pretty low brow and u17 D3 players would be perfectly at home at that level.

Observations are that many many clubs were always struggling to get their 2s on the field in the lower divisions, and this is no longer the case with the availability of the 18-19 year olds.

This has strengthened the QAFL colts and lots of kids who otherwise might have got a start in QAFL colts are now playing Div 2 Seniors and/or Reserves

Respectful disagee on some points.
Qafl Colts has probably benefited from this decision but a lot of clubs still struggling to get a full twos team on the park.
Yes the twos comp in div two is substandard but that doesn't relate to 17s wanting to play in it.
Majority of the boys I talk to would rather play Colts with their mates than change clubs or play ressies.
If the goal was to get more ressies players that seems a bit stupid.

With the bye coming up, we've seen 6 rounds of action.

Who wants to take a stab at the power rankings so far?

Redcliffe

Kenmore
Kedron
Yeronga
AlexHills
Jindalee

Logan City
Pine Rivers
Gympie
Wynnum
Zillmere
Moorooka

The 2-6 spots could almost be shuffled to any of the teams on the day.
Probably looking at the 6 teams in finals already.. although plenty of footy to be played still.
I believe Redcliffe's list is obviously the strongest by a country mile..

I honestly don’t think we’ve seen the best out of Logan, Pine and Gympie yet.

Still early days with long lists and depth. 10 rounds to go - anything could happen.

Devils will be there, mark my words!
