Agree Thommo on all that - I had a girl at QAFLW level this year make the Team of the Year, has been nominated with 5 others for most outstanding game for the season, will win our B&F fairly easily. Didn't poll a vote from the umpires for the whole season!

Totally understand that you never keep everyone happy. But the monies being played to participate in these competitions I think we shouldn’t just accept mediocrity when it can be done better.
Clubs are held to certain standards and I think as a whole most do an outstanding job. So if we can give feed back to League to make things like awards nights better than why not. If clubs at our level want to try something different and it works, than why not have a go and see how it works.
Problem is ,if we do a good job, then others complain the league don’t like the backlash .
I've heard similar in the past as well. There would certainly be some miscounting here and there

yeah, in lower grade youth comps it would be a lottery.
30% of games in Div 3 and 4 for us this year in some of the lower age groups, no umpires showed up and we had to just ask a random parent.
in those games, I doubt anyone every remembered to do votes at the end, and sometimes i'd be emailed 3 weeks later asking for votes, and sometimes they didn't even ask. There would be plenty of games where there just wouldn't be any votes at all, and I could have replied with whatever I wanted when they asked, but I usually just asked the coach. However, as if they are going to remember the oppo players from those games!
Hardly playing for sheep stations, but I imagine some of the adult lower division stuff is similar with club umpires and stuff. I umpired 4 senior womens games this year and never did a vote of any kind, usually I just had to rush home and it didn't occur to me

The voting system for league umpires was moved online this year, the appointed umpire(s) could enter their votes in the portal any time after the game. Essentially doing away with the physical vote cards
Can assume then that all manner of things spring up when club umpires needed or system down and turned in a vote card. Very easy to lose or forget to email or manage to not get them counted one way or another

Been to about last 7 years prior. Spoke to a few people from different clubs that all said was a bit long and not enough on their particular competition.

I would normally say walk before you can run, but given they have consistently had Colts - its a perfect example of the QFA colts cancellation working the way it should.

Seems like the clubs who had a QFA colts team (or half of one) are mostly looking to add a Friday team. Caloundra, Redcliffe, Hinterland, Sandgate

Gympie won’t change unless forced.
More Friday Night Teams will put more pressure on Saturday Footy. I thought the logic of deleting Colts on a Saturday was to help with umpire numbers and secure Saturday Footy Ressies numbers/Seniors.
Seems wrong to have 18-20 year olds being thrust into Friday Nights against 30+ players with bigger bodies.
