Optional ressies won’t work. Imagine a club trying to hold a playing group together that only plays irregularly because of no consistent opposition.

Just a means of transferring the Fri night model to Saturdays which creates problems with grounds and umpire availability.

Try again.

Where do the southern comps sit in all that too?

Believe there are a couple of clubs about to take the step to Sat footy

You could have guys that play on a Friday night and then have a bit of a kick and giggle on a Saturday for one of those teams. Would be a quasi-senior comp like they have in Darling Downs where its branded as 'seniors' but only one game on a Saturday.

Youd probably find that the leftovers could go help out other Friday clubs or even Div 2 ressies if they need a hand. Would need to talk to club presidents about it but im sure the likes of Jindalee who have a great history and good core group of players would like a change from getting thumped every week

The programming of finals has been a real source of confusion.
Even the regular finals have one club playing at two different grounds when it is not necessary.

Losing yet another competition manager for our Division again at end of season.

So planning for next year will be all over the place yet again whilst AFLQ get their house in order.

Real issue trying to hang onto good staff nowadays.

Was a ripper of a game.
I've watched a few finals games so far in both Friday and Saturday footy.
Might be just me but it looks like the whistle blowers really over umpire in finals.

Watched the Sandgate v Redcliffe game and thought it was umpired fairly well and even. The umpire with the mullet tried to over umpire and be involved in everything including constantly overruling the other 2 but the other 2 were actually decent.

They might be competing for spots as well, but I find it's either 'gee they over umpire' or 'I don't understand why they put the whistle away in finals'. Can't win
Yeah. Fair comment but getting a feel for the game is important and can’t be understated.

Let the umpires umpire and let the players play.

I'd tread carefully with the naming of umpires 🥴 it's their workplace and all that

next you know the new league boss will have another 'crackdown on dissent' and we'll be back to 'arms out is 50'

Backing both losers from last year to go one better. Sandgate and Alex

Looks like the women's game is on first and could be pick of the day. Both won prelims by plenty

Are there lots of examples of that? Guess with covid we haven't had a lot of 'week off' finals series in recent years

Really interesting one is Northshore in Div 3 I think. Haven't played 2 consecutive weeks in nearly 2 months!

Thinking back to Park Ridge v Beenleigh in this comp a few years ago Beenleigh pumped them in the qualifying and then Park Ridge ran over the top of them in the GF. I dont think Alex are the clear head and shoulders above team so I think it'll be a very close one

Have seen a bit of Alex and kenmore this year and feel Alex have had more improvement in the back end. But yes will be a good game.
Kedron have loaded up the twos and looking to cash in on that. But Sandgate a quality twos side and on the big ground should get it done.
The third prediction and a certainty is Caloundra tonight. Will win by 10 goals at least.

"Tradition V Trivia" (for anyone interested):

Leading into the QFA Division 2 North Grand Final tomorrow, I thought I might take a look at the history of Senior games between Alexandra Hills and Kenmore. Just because….

Grand Final
Alexandra Hills V Kenmore

Played 33: Alexandra Hills 14 wins – Kenmore 19
Alexandra Hills (or Capalaba, if you’re old enough) has been competing in Senior competitions since they joined the SQAFA in 1982. Kenmore, operating as a Junior club for even longer, entered the Senior ranks of the BAFL from 1997. The first time the two clubs met in the same competition was 2007 as part of the AFLSQ Premier Division. (There are so many competition name changes that it must be confusing for anyone who has had limited exposure to local footy history.)
Since 2007, both clubs have competed against each other in every season, except the COVID-affected year of 2020 when the Bombers were allocated to the North Division and the Bears to the South Division of the QFA Division 2. Overall, they have met on 33 occasions – and until two weeks ago, had never played a final against each other. Across the journey, the honours have been relatively shared – although, Kenmore enjoyed an 11-game winning streak from 2011 to 2017.
There have been six games decided by single-digit margins (three of those have occurred in the last six clashes) – whilst five games have had a margin of more than 100 points.
Highest score: Alex Hills 178 (2010), Kenmore 154 (2015)
Lowest score: Alex Hills 33 (2014), Kenmore 31 (2010)
Interestingly, Kenmore has not kicked more than 10 goals in a match against Alexandra Hills since 2019 (which was also the last time either team kicked more than 100 points in a game).
Just to add a little to this post, I thought I would look at the cumulative score across the 33 games for both teams against each other:
Alexandra Hills 424 – 391 – 2935 to Kenmore 435 – 381 – 2991
So, as a quirk of history, if the Bombers defeated the Bears with a scoreline of 65 to 9, then both clubs would have kicked exactly 3,000 points against each other.

What does it all mean? Nothing. Good luck to both clubs tomorrow.

Also, if anyone disagrees with any details, please let me know - I'm cool to be corrected. If you have any SQAFA/BAFL, GCAFL, or SCAFL results to share, please get in touch.

Enjoy. :thumbsu:
