Maybe the difference is Moorooka always had vision to go back to Saturdays. So what’s the difference between PAC Pines and Moorooka going up not just divisions but from Fridays to Saturdays? Other than AFLQ forcing them up?
What’s the definition of success then? Redcliffe multiple prelims prior to this season? Alex Hills multiple GFs?
By everyone’s logic here, Moorooka is no where ready for going up a division since they’ve only been good for 2 years, back to back GFs and an undefeated season. They better stay Fridays and win just one more to ensure they really are ready.
Or have we just decided that Div 1 is just too hard?
You need to send 2 teams or more up to Div 1. Not just the one club.

Some very good points Toucan. One point of view (yeah, it’s a bit long):
Each Club is responsible for their own affairs and development.
The League is responsible for the management and health of all competitions under their jurisdiction.
It might be sport for some to take pot-shots at the League from time to time – but the League must rely on the willingness and co-operation of the Clubs. And vice versa. Each entity relies on the other.
Let’s assume that a Division 1 consisting of 7 clubs is inadequate – and that whilst 13 is too many, none of the QAFL clubs will be demoted in the short-term.
The Six Core Pillars relate specifically to QAFL participation, yet still have relevance for any level of promotion. They are defined as:
If we focus on Redcliffe for a moment, I suspect they are performing outstandingly in most areas for their current level of competition. Their facilities are excellent – and although they have one Senior Flag from the past 4 seasons, they also have won 59 of 73 games played during that period. I might view the Tigers as a strong candidate for promotion – but what I think doesn’t matter. It is up to the willingness of the Club.

We could turn our attention to the Div 2 South clubs. I can see a time when Coolangatta, Burleigh or Bond Uni (or an entirely different club) steps up to Div 1 – but it is a decision for the individual clubs to make the jump. It does also feel that there is a prevailing level of comfort with maintaining a “Gold Coast isolation” policy for this particular comp.
So, what happens if no club wants to step up to bring Div 1 to 8 teams? The League may have to act to maintain the health of the comps. It would be potentially imprudent to force a promotion on any single club. Perhaps it is necessary to promote 3 Clubs in one hit? Or maybe even 5?
Fundamentally, if individual Clubs are not willing to make the step up, then the League may need to take action to manage their comps. And maybe, being on the verge of Summer, it is already too late for 2026.

Was similar rumours last off season aswell but nothing ever come of itIs there any truth to a rumour that Alex Hills are turning their focus to move to Div 2 South?
Great point Miller, they do it a lot in Victorian Competitions as a leveller to prohibit clubs in reducing points and getting stronger. Think it’s a no brainer for lower divisions especially. You can't force clubs up, but there are mechanisms to encourage it.
AFLQ are within their power to give points and cap concessions for struggling clubs, but conversely as I understand it, they are also within their rights to reduce points caps and salary caps for clubs that are 'over achieving'.
We haven't seen this happen as yet, but would be interesting to see if a club that completely dominates a certain division over 2-3 seasons has their points allowance reduced. There would be lots of sooking and bleating, but the mechanism is there!
Good points toucan but unfortunately I think the 6 pillars (there used to be a 7th and that was the capacity to run a colts side out) get overlooked for whether a side should go down versus go up. It seems you are locked in no matter what if you tick the boxes in a single year. For qafl footy anyway. One point of view (yeah, it’s a bit long):

Then give relief when Teams take the step up a division.
Yep, if Redcliffe for example were to win D2 again.
I'd be reducing their points cap by 5 and reducing their salary cap as well.
Alternatively, I'd entice them into Div 1 by giving them 3-5 points more to go up.
Not sure this sort of logic exists at HQ though!

Same story, different year.Gympie staying in D2 and have applied for extra points. Coach to be announced in coming days and is expected to drag a few up with him
For a club that sat between 23-28 points each week with the points cap I would be very surprised if they were granted extra points by AFLQ. If Gympie have applied for those extra points it points towards some big recruits with a hint of splashing a lot of cash about to get them there.Gympie staying in D2 and have applied for extra points. All new leadership there and people ready to commit things are looking very positive. For a club that sat between 23-28 points each week with the points cap I would be very surprised if they were granted extra points by AFLQ.
