Surly the travel isn't going to be too hard, you will do it once.

It's not that big a deal. Not like your whole Saturday isn't already consumed by football.

Travel in footy is inevitable and I honestly believe that Byron will come into one of the QLD comps soon enough, probably not this one, perhaps a predominate Gold Coast comp like div 2 is at the moment. If Burleigh have another stinker and Kenmore are as strong as I've heard could make for another Gold Coast team in 2020 in D2, if it's ever going to happen that would be the time to do it.

Any player movement in this comp ? Kym, I heard McCrossen maybe lining up down the road from us ?

Kedron have landed them self a Gun premiership Half back flanker.

Yes Nick unfortunately he is going to coolingatta he initially agreed to play with us again but the offer cooli made to him was to good to refuse (a second time) plus Trent lives over the back of the footy club so with all that to concider it made sense for Trent to play there as he is also a former player/coach there as well.

Trent had the decency to call me and and explain to us why instead of cooli just putting in a clearance and us finding out that way which shows the character of the bloke... top bloke,gun footballer and has the total respect from myself and the Eagles we wish him the best. Yes a big loss but we are still confident of making the top 5 and are looking forward to the new season.

1 yes Morton Bay will definitely be towards the top one would think after dropping down.
2 looks like your indicating that Kedron and Hinterlands have recruited heavily.
3 Wynnum and Ipswich have lost a few without replacing.
Some big calls here especially with Wynnum coming in at 5(I would expect them to be much higher) and Hinterlands at 3 and for us at 4 I just hope we make finals footy again

Why should clubs be consulted on any changes to any competition.
It's a sign of respect for those involved who pay big money and supply umpires and just about everything else needed to play a game of footy.
Very simple answer really.
The only reason clubs are not consulted on decisions like grand final days and new teams is because aflq know it will cause them issues.
How many clubs would say sure we're ok with a Sunday grand final.
Travel is fine but if your spending 6 hours in a car or bus to play third division footy something's not right there.
Good luck to Gympie but how hard is going to be for them.
If they are not winning than the chances of fielding two teams each week becomes very difficult .
It's fine to have promotion and relegation in place but what happens when your in a division that has you travelling to Byron Lismore towoomba
Gympie gold coast and sunshine coast.
It's only a matter of time before this happens now that Gympie is in.
When you just go with the flow and don t question people then you'll get exactly what you deserve.
Think ahead and realise that two simple decisions made today can have long reaching affects on the existing clubs.
It said a few years ago Friday nite footy will be the fastest growing comp.
Now there are two divisions .
If the above scenario happens there will be even more growth in the one team clubs.
Mostly coming from two team clubs today.
It will also be a Saturday comp.
Just my two cents worth and feel free to rip it apart.

If that’s the case then why is a Friday night team in Jindalee moving up to div 3 Saturday footy? I know they have numbers but if most guys prefer Friday night lifestyle for weekends with families it makes you wonder

I'm certainly not having a crack at Gympie.
Off course your the ones who will be affected most.
Your going to do what's best for your club and rightly so.
I certainly haven't personally heard anything negative about Gympie
It's a series of bad decisions over the years that has put qld footy in this position.
Your club included.
When you keep changing the divisions and competitions it proves you got it wrong.
Good luck to you but you guys are used to travelling.
Id be more worried about clubs not beaing able to field two teams coming your way.
Plenty of clubs in this comp halfway through the year struggle to put 44 blokes on the paddock 10k away from home.
You might need to think about a few of your extras having a game with the travelling teams .

Yeah it’s difficult isn’t it? That’s why I believe you need at least 60-70 committed blokes which is hard to find. Could maybe get away with 55. But I just hate disorganisation. Especially when it comes to Friday night and got no idea what’s happening. I just want these next few months to hurry up!

I don t subscribe to the theory that its about lifestyle.
Any club that isn't a geninuine thirds team should be aiming to move up..
You get more people watching.
More money spent at the bar and canteen.
A better pathway for local juniors.
The hardest part going from current Friday nite footy to Saturday is only numbers.
That's why I think a Saturday comp of one men's senior team and a women's team played before will eventuate.
It's getting very hard to have so many clubs all trying to get 70 players on the list.
The one team club scenario in a quality saturday comp is not unrealistic .
Better to have one team than forfeit three games and be out of the league for three years.

Having coached Friday nights for 4 years, I couldn’t disagree more. 80% of our players came to zillmere because they wanted the Friday night lifestyle so they could have a kick and leave weekends free for family/work.

The aim as a club is to eventually move back to Saturday footy and two teams, but the reality is we are probably 3-4 years away. They are getting a colts side this year which will hopefully be the first step, creating a pathway that won’t rely on recruiting 20+ players every year to sustain senior footy.

If zillmere was to go to Saturday footy next year, despite being a decent side in div 4 the last few years, they would need to recruit 50 players straight up, as the majority of the current squad wouldn’t play.

To have a reserves comp that is of a poor standard and clubs struggling just to put one out is just stupid.
The clubs with extras should work with a two team club to fill up thier seconds if needed.
This is needed for the lower tier of footy for clubs to get ahead.
Instead we put clubs in a position where every week is a struggle.
Left to volunteers to try and keep it together.
When clubs come and go at a rate they have done over the last few years a new business model is needed.
So my model is.
One Friday nite comp.
One single team Saturday comp.
Division three comp but probably not needed.
Division two comp
Division one comp
Qafl with an increase in numbers.
Make the path simple and attainable for clubs to grow at a pace that doesn't put them to the wall.
It's all and good to bring your juniors through but the good ones are not staying at lower level clubs.
The right thing to do is to set them up at a qafl club.
When decisions are made to just make your job easier than it probably needed a bit more thought.
Just my opinion and always room for improvement through discussion .

55 definitely not enough we had over 60 on the books last year and still found ourselves short at times in the 2’s due to work,injuries and personal events and always some that walk too. I believe you need at least 70+but then the trick is how to keep the ones that do miss out on games when everyone is available

this practice will likely stop in coming years with points system and salary cap introduced in QFA in 2020.

We've basically had 3/4 of our QAFL Seniors and Reserves list contacted by Kenmore and Ipswich (among others) in the last 2 seasons with offers of significantly more cash than they get with us.

When a bloke playing Ressies can go and get $2-300 a game playing Div 3, its hard to compete. Having said that, 95% of them stayed so we must be doing something right

In future, with points tally - they can't do it.

You’re absolutely right pine rivers moorooka and hinterland struggled this year with numbers especially ressies and personally it’s frustrating when you rock up and got no idea what’s happening

You would hope they do some more poaching this off season. Going up into div 1, already lost a few premiership players i see. Reserves were not very flash last year either, so could be a grim year for the boys at park ridge

I’ve heard APPARENTLY some park ridge boys are training with moorooka and that moorooka could poach some players. And that park ridge have put in to stay in div 2 and yeronga have put in to stay in div1.
