Never understood why Sandgate are in Taigum, GRange are in Stafford, Sherwood are in Chelmer, Morningside are in Hawthorn and so on. Now Park Ridge are in Greenbank, but then they're not again!?

Thumbs up to the purist clubs like Yeronga and Jindalee who are actually located in the location their draw their name from!
In some cases it would be because originally the majority of players came from a place - possibly there mightn't have been sufficient parkland to play there though.

Boundaries of the suburbs were largely set in the mid 70s, before that places were known in terms of larger areas. Both Sandgate and Sherwood was a local government entities unto themselves covering the current suburbs of Chelmer down to Oxley and west through the Centenary suburbs. Grange for the first 15 years or so of their existence played at Emerson Park in the suburb of Grange, just across Kedron Brook from their current home ground (although funnily enough they were called Wilston AFC for the first couple of years. Morningside developed from Hawthorne Juniors. Maybe have a read through the excellent book More of the Kangaroo if you haven't already.

I reckon you’re wrong. Every single Gold Coast and Northern Rivers club considers exactly that, Logan City clubs to be a northern outpost.
Hard agree, Quick Look at google maps shows that Alex jindalee Kenmore Wynnum kedron and yeronga are closer to park ridge than the northern most team in the Southside comp. I wish I could be this wrong and this confident at the same time like Freddy

Great post from The Flying Belgian All salient points re the formation of Wilston Grange and Morningside.
For my background, I still find it "entertaining" that some Devils' old-timers continue to want to call the Club "South Brisbane", rather than "Yeronga". Its only been 34 years, so I guess some changes can't be rushed. (For background, one of the reasons for the change was to better identify with the local area - some visitors genuinely though the Club was based at Musgrave Park.)
And if anyone is seeking a copy of "More Of The Kangaroo", get in touch with me. There are still copies left. Great deals are available (if only to clear the last stock).

Can confirm there will be a Ben Long cup. The trophy needs an upgrade though.

Nice work Tassie obviously only pick up players as registrations done. So few clubs may have a few more than what is showing and some clubs may be behind in this process seeing it’s only February

My two cents would be that pine rivers will be OK. Only dropped out a few years ago so might be able to get a few of their players back. Eagles fb doesn’t scream competitive with the players they have signed. And neither teams were overly strong in div 3 north. With that being said, it is excellent to see them being able to rebuild to an extent to get back to Saturday footy.

But suddenly div 2 north is back up near a pretty large number of teams. Which leads to larger gaps between the top and the bottom, as seen in previous years. You’d assume those two back in would mostly affect Sandgate and Kedron.

Over the past 2-3 seasons we've seen a very competitive comp. Doesn't take many recruits/departures to move up and down the ladder though.

Looking forward to see how 2024 plays out. Each team/club has different benchmarks which will determine their success.

Exciting times!

Agree Pugs think the competition will be fairly even across the board this year with no clear stand out.

If Coorparoo get promoted from Div 1 to QAFL next season it will be interesting if any current QAFL Teams are under pressure to be demoted or there may be pressure to push up some Div 2 North Teams.

Surely they won’t allow a 5 Team competition will they?

5 team comp?

Unless someone else is being pushed out of Div 1 too?
I mean when coorparoo go to QAFL there will still be 7 teams in Div 1 so not sure what’s happening there in regards to 5 team comp, don’t see any of the Div 1 teams moving out of Div 1 anytime soon

What are the thoughts on the introduction of Ground Marshalls to senior footy? I can see confrontations coming if they approx away team coaches boxes. The umpires already have the white card system
