All the "cash they've spent"...
Tigers have plugged away in Div 2 for years building the club up with aspirations of moving up, while others have bought premierships. How are some of those clubs travelling? Moorooka, Logan, Park Ridge and a few others spring to mind.

I agree Tigers have been building for a couple of years. All well and good to say 'cash spent', but if you look at the list they have added a couple quality players a year over the past few years, none of which have left the club. Combined with junior players returning from stints at a higher level.
Accusing clubs of 'buying a flag' (before the half way point in the season!!) is a cop out for underperforming teams

The buying a flag bs always amuses me. There’s a cap in place. You’re allowed to use it. If you can’t afford it and whine then it’s on you.

Tigers lost a GF to Coorparoo in 01, beat Wynnum in 02 and 05, then beat Beenleigh in 08 followed by a win over Logan in 2012.
Across various divisions and league changes. Through that era they kept a core nucleus and recruited a few whilst being gifted some handy walk-ins (many played 100 - 300 games).
Current group reminds me of the same, add quality bit by bit but finally there are some 20+ home-grown juniors on the Senior list.
always good to bring up something from 20 years ago to support an argument.Reunion is last home game of the year if you want to have a look at the cup that day.

There many ways to get around the cap and ud be ignorant to think this isn't happening at a number of clubs

I think it's more that some clubs aren't using the cap... you believe several are over? No need to name them but out of curiosity what club do you follow in Div 2 North?

You can’t tell me Bowles, Farry, Fowler, the Allison brothers, Jackson, Lowney and probably others are playing for free. And then that surely doesn’t fit into $1250 a week - which also includes the more than generous post game awards payments!

If you want to go up a division and be competitive, you HAVE to spend money. It's about being able to sustain it, otherwise you just end up back where you were in a couple of years time.

I heard a rumour that some of those guys are playing with their mates, or brothers and want to try to win a flag. A few players at most clubs may be getting paid.
If you have multiple reasons for playing somewhere often top dollar isn't required.
I have no basis for my ramblings but then again you don't seem to either?

When you get a coach who is well respected and connected, good players he already has a previous relationship can very often come for no/little $$$. Especially when they were already competitive and their addition would help with a premiership tilt. Some blokes like that stuff, not just $$$
