What’s the salary cap in Div 2 - $20k? My thoughts would be these 8 guys would max it out let alone including the coaches wage! And if still chasing more players from Wide Bay comp as commented they won’t be offering them $0! Where does that leave the locals! 🤔
The locals have had a crack at it for the last 8 years and have had a highest finishing position of about 2nd last or 3rd last
This is really a last resort for Gympie I’d imagine they’ve tried getting blokes there for years with decent coin and haven’t been able to bring in enough
Fingers crossed everyone can stay healthy and they have a successful year, lot of good people in that club who have been through a lot and deserve to see them win more then one game a year

Some fair points made. However footy is a pastime for both the community and for individuals to enjoy. That in itself brings conflict.

I’m not aware of any of the details for departure of said coach but I’d suggest that if the coach is setting up at another club immediately that there was a fallout with club (as opposed to purely work/family commitments) & when it came down to it these 8 players believe they’ll enjoy their footy more with said coach in 2026 at a new club.

Easy to blame the coach and say the players are chasing $ but if the club was a place for them they’d stay. Clubs are just only as good as their temporary custodians.

Good luck to both clubs for 2026. Some good people at both clubs.

Possibly sick of Div 1 as well. Given the number of Div 2 premiership players that have gone up there, probably suggests there's a place for Div 2 footy on the coast

Without knowing one single player I’d reckon a playing group that wants club & team success would embrace them all……unless those “locals” are about themselves and not the team.

Hopefully everyone stays and they don't need any permits to prop up the twos.
The other plus side to a heap of new lads.
Div 2 north ressies isn't that hard to climb the ladder quickly.
Adding a few blokes with senior experience suddenly the twos are very competitive.
Makes for a great day on home games.

Sounds to me like after many struggling years the Gympie Cats are ready to change the narrative and start to build success. This can only happen by bringing about change. People can talk about money/sustainability etc, but the bottom line is, ongoing success normally only happens after initial success. I applaud Gympie for going out and getting a Premiership Coach with a Premiership captain and some quality players. My experience tells me that this action will draw in many more recruits and will no doubt engage former locals who would be craving success. Too many clubs just put an advert on the internet and wait for the phone to ring. To be a successful club you are better served by seeking who you need, contact them and go and do what you need to do to get them, which it sounds like the Cats have done with the appointment of Phil Birchmore. Go Cats!!!

Good luck to the cats. But at the end of the Day they’re a small country town 2 hours from Brisbane with no juniors. So success in the Brisbane comp will always be tough.

See Carrara have posted saying their youth/juniors are now going to call Nerang State High School ‘home’. Don’t know anything about the facilities but assume that means the ground lease battle isn’t going well for Carrara AFC?

Is there ground getting redone or are they getting kicked out of there? It was a pretty good ground and facility's
Not apart of Carrara but from the posts I’ve seen big fallout with the cricket club and the council I think was on the cricket clubs side. Such as not being allowed to use the bar or the top balcony area during AFL games.

Hearing Matt Suckling pulling on the jumper for Redcliffe.
A few other huge ins as well.
They definitely are setting themselves up for back to back.
Good luck everyone else.

Yeah look, Redcliffe need a big pre season recruiting phase because what they had last year just wasn’t enough clearly……

Glad they have ex-AFL, NEAFL and QAFL players to help them in Div 2.

Good to have you all behind Redcliffe with your support in 2026.
We appreciate it

Little bit of Jealousy Shining through.
No wouldn’t call it jealousy at all. I’ve had my fair share of premierships.

If you have bothered to look through previous posts on here. I’m a pretty big advocate for, you win you go up. I said the same thing about Alex Hills. And GC teams. Difference with your club and Alex Hills is they aren’t signing QAFL and NEAFL players to win Div 2. On top of your current premiership senior and reserves lists.

But if that extra piece of silverware that suddenly ticks all the boxes that allow you go Div 1 then go for it.

Think if you went back through Alex list they picked up a QAFL player before the 30 June cut off this year...and who's to say Redcliffe are not getting these players in to reduce the player points before making a Div 1 push?

Maybe Redcliffe should have the year off attempting to win more silverware and wait another decade and a half to win anything

Be careful you don’t bite your tongue with it that far implanted in your cheek Kath.

I don’t think there is actually any right or wrong timeline for promotion. Each club is on their own pathway and in different places of their evolution. The Redcliffe brains trust will have their reasons for their actions.

BTW, Are there actually any financial incentives to promote? Does winning help sponsorship, player retention, membership and culture? Does promotion reduce or increase your fees? Seems like a few incentives there not to promote.

Unless the association enforces promotion & relegation (which died several years ago when there were 3 trips to the Sunny Coast in Div 1) it’s just simply a case of others wanting them out because they’re successful.

If there are 13 QAFL clubs and 7 Div 1 clubs then I suppose Redcliffe & Bond Uni are the 21st and 22nd best teams in SEQ?? At the end of the day the placement of teams in divisions has to sit with the association. They’ve finally set a precedent now that they’ve forced Yeronga QAFLW down (and they were not in agreement).

I’m just not sure it all rests with Redcliffe alone to create what others think is a fair playing field.

Just seems to me on the AFLQ side of things. They seem to pick and choose when they force their almighty hand.

How does Mt Gravatt staying in QAFL provide any support for the comp itself? Other than AFLQ going ‘well we tried to help’ when they finish last again in 2026. But on the flip side they force Yeronga to go down?

What supports or provisions are/were put in place to help Beenleigh not fall to fridays despite being in a Div 1 GF in 2022? Are there incentives for Redcliffe to go up next year or 2027, other than silverware? Player points as one example from the last two posts?

How do they entice Cooley, Burleigh and Bond to have GC representation in Div 1 and help undilute the Brisbane Div 1 comp?

Or are we at a generation now where blokes playing with their mates and those who want to go higher are at such gaps clubs directives are solely ran by players?

I should say for record. I do not have a personal issue against Redcliffe or any clubs in similar positions. Just a strong believer in healthy comps and the winner goes up and perhaps the loser goes down.

AFLQ need to stop being reactionary and assess the sustainability of a move.

eg. Mt Gravatt are not sustainable in the QAFL for the same reason Yeronga weren't sustainable in the QAFLW. They don't have a strong junior base and there is no obvious source of resurgence other than external recruitment using funds they don't have.

Beenleigh probably weren't a great candidate for D1 in hindsight, as its a small junior base and not a core loyal playing group. On the other hand, Redcliffe with their solid junior grounding and excellent facility will be a great candidate for D1, whether or not its next year or the year after. While they are probably over reaching now with recruitment and spend, they have a sustainable base that wouldn't see them fall off a cliff if recruits left.

Sandgate a perfect example. Dropped out of the QAFL in 2020 with no senior fotoy at all and back in Div 1 within 5 years, not hard to see why - an outstanding junior club to support their senior ambitions and improvement.

Your own club juniors, or at the very least a supply of local juniors surrounding you is the key to being a sunstainable senior club in my opinion.

I agree with the Junior club aspect. However the funny thing is. Other then Sandgate, what Div 1 current team has a good juniors?

By that I mean both numbers and competitiveness (Div 1 or very least Div 2 juniors) I assume Mayne is still using Everton Wolves as their junior pathways. West juniors aligned with UQ, as they have been for many years. No idea on Hinterland, Springwood didn’t always have 16s and definitely weren’t beyond Div 2 standards. Caloundra I notice have decided to unite both the senior and junior club together which is great. Moreton Bay always have good numbers as well.
