This is probably the smartest thing anyone has put together in this thread. Thank you

Except anything and everything that comes from Freddy, of course!

UQ Bulldogs are a new second Friday night team for UQ playing in Bris South, affiliated with Wests Juniors with a lot of ex-juniors players coming in.

Will play 3 of their 7 home games out of Oakman Park. UQ's not running with an explicit thirds/fourths system but more based on geography and where players want to play.

Oakman park is great to play at. You can load up from halfway!

Just seen the EDFL transfers Rhys Magin popped up has departed Pomona headed back to Vic to play EDFL. Huge loss for the Demons. That will drop them in my ladder predictions pretty significantly. Also had not realised Hinterland dropped their thirds side that’s disappointing to see.

From what got sent around that I saw, there’s no more Ipswich Cats

Thats a damn shame.

However, There is room for a club west of Ipswich. There are No clubs in Gatton, Laidley, Plainland, which a club placed in around Plainlands would draw from. Must be well over 30k here people now. Huge growth of young families in this 'corridor' region.

It would be Better that any proposed new club stays East of Gatton (Plainland/Laidley) and so remains in the Brisbane QAFL Zone rather than in the Darling Downs AFL zone.

Gatton had an Aussie rules club for 5-6 years. Produced 2 AFL players both born in Gatton, and both had their 1st club games for the 'Lockyer Demons'; Wiley Buzza and Dylan Patterson (Dylan yet to play 1st game). Also produced an AFL goal umpire; Alistair Meldrum.

Pity about the Cats. There was some chance to amalgamate with the Eagles a few years ago when they had some leverage. A particular stubborn individual wouldnt hear of it. Now hes got nothing.

Problem with putting a club out that way is you’re making a massive drive for clubs like Redlands and Alex Hills on the east in that Friday night Brisbane south comp.

Seems like the only somewhat stable clubs (at least from an outside perspective) has been Eagles and Collingwood Park. No cats, no Springfield and no Brisbane Valley Rattlers (Fernvale). However eagles lost a whole bunch to Sherwood or just left. I really do think it would be great to see an Ipswich based club back on Saturdays.

Tips for Sunny Coast:

  • Maroochydore in a close one over Kawana
  • Glasshouse over Pomona by 6 goals
  • Northshore by plenty over Caloundra

Aido97 do you have the inside word on North Shore?

No inside word but they’ve beaten caloundra comfortably the last two seasons in their early meeting and don’t think the old boys down at caloundra get going or even bother training for the first 6 weeks or so

So Coops have pretty much swapped their south and north teams around. Will make the north comp a lot more interesting.

Some expected results in the sunny coast league with Maroochy and Caloundra winners Caloundra very comfortably. Pomona with an upset 43-42 win over Glasshouse would have been a thriller

Caloundra over 40s predictably ran out of legs. Maroochy v Kawana grand final

This year should be a real learning curve for AFLQ as an organisation. Surging numbers across all leagues. Just heard from many div 3 clubs that there's 20 odd blokes not getting a game. Unfortunately resulting in blokes having to miss out or quit. Pretty stark reality really. Gatekeeping the potential of teams available and competitions will only drive people away from supporting Australian Rules and growing the game in QLD.
