Watched the live stream this morning. Amongst what was an edge of your seat GF with everything you’d want for a good GF. I have to say the GF was probably unpired a bit too inconsistently.

Both teams went hard. But I watched the speeches at the end and noticed neither the cooraproo coach or captain made a speech? A coorparoo official or non-player got red carded as the umps were walking off. Was it the coach?

I see the AFLQ post has commenting turned off. Bit sad, was a cracking game

Maroochydore and Caloundra 2 biggest senior clubs on the coast with potentially none of their other teams playing (pending today’s results). These clubs have a big following

Yeah, my point is I wouldn't be shocked if it got a big crowd regardless of who's in. All the clubs that played this year would probably be interested in a look - especially as the only senior grand final on the coast for many years

Jets must be really disappointed with that last quarter

No idea, they had a convo with the player getting the 50 as well which was weird.

But #3 from Coops was clearly in protected area, ran from behind and was just dumb. It was 100% there and old mate was brave enough to pay it as he should have.

Not to mention crowd etc on the field as well.
So if a bloke marks it 100m from goal and siren goes and someone encroaches in unprotected area then why isn’t that 50m?

My understanding the game ends at the siren. Only minimal decisions can be made. Not this one. For obvious reasons. The bloke isn’t allowed to play on.

It would be 50m in your scenario, which would take him to 50m out.

Siren sounded, bloke has marked it forward of centre square, only an idiot would think he's not having a crack. To literally run through the mark so clearly and obviously, kind of taking it out of the hands of the umpire - really only leaves him with one possible decision to make.

Add to that, the umps hadn’t called time on the quarter yet. So could the players running on had the whole score wiped to 0 if the captain had called them for more than 18 players being on the field?

Exactly. So 50m out he’s a chance of kicking a goal. Not 100m

The protect the zone rule is to allow players to roll and play on if they wish. Which this bloke obv couldn’t do as it was post siren.
I’m not 💯 sure but think it wasn’t the correct decision to pay for encroaching on the protected area but wouldn't be hanging anyone for it. Looked like 1 ump didn't care less, the other bloke cared a lot... :)

Supporters/ interchange players/officials know to not get onto the field when there is a set shot after the siren at any break. Including the final siren.

90% of the coorparoo players were well aware that the Moorooka player was going to have a shot and ran to the goals to stop it from going in even before the 50 was given.

Regardless. Definitely a GF to remember. Congrats to the roosters. From winless almost dead club two years ago to back to back grand finals and undefeated premiers this year. Can’t wait to see them compete Saturday’s next year.

Yep, but the rule is black and white, no room to decide if someone impacts the play. 90% of these paid at any time of the game are the result of an action that had zero impact on what was happening.

Prob would argue that any others paid are paid due to the potential of the ball player rolling around and trying to get off their line. In this case it actually couldn’t happen. And even more so bc the coops player was obviously not trying to get past the contest but was running in to celebrate.
You might be right as the jimmy Stynes / Gary buckenara prelim could be a good example but just think that this situation bit different.
Good for Moorooka though and obv a classic game of footy. Fri nights have had some beauties lately.

GF picks

SC- Caloundra in a close one.
North- Marcellin too strong

Massive power vacuum in South and GC. Yes I’m already jumping the gun for 2026.Can’t see anyone getting near Coorparoo but Collingwood Park, Redlands and Sherwood all very close. Does bring the comp down to 10 but could still split the comp into two divisions.

And PAC pines leaving it to Southport and maybe Labrador. Does leave GC a 6 team comp. I’m surprised no other QAFL GC teams have a Friday night team other than Lab.

Kawana will be better for the experience despite the straight sets. Aspley came firing from 5th to prelim. Bribie to come in next year?

Any teams not back next year or coming in next year?

Worst thing about this time of the year is it’s generally the best your playing surface looks and only a couple of teams get to appreciate it.
Kawana is in ripping nick and with a bit of luck that wind will go away and we’ll see a classic contest.
Caloundra are stacked and should be white hot favourites. Maroochydore should provide a great contest.
One thing I will guarantee the beers will be cold and the best canteen on the coast will be pumping out the tucker. Should be a good night

What a sell job🤣

Hope it’s a good night.

isn't that the privilege of making the pointy end of the season, getting to run on the best fields?

Sounds like all set up to be a great night. At Kawana and also at Grange. Hope both teams put on a show!

Kawana Facebook advertising for new coach and stating Div 3 or potentially Div 2. You guys got some big numbers?

The long term target is division 2. With all due respect to Gympie there is a niche on the coast at that level. There is a fair bit of player movement expected across the coast this off season . Our numbers are really strong. My opinion is we need to add some real senior quality to be competitive in D2. Still an incredibly young squad. So some bigger experienced bodies are definitely required. The signing of Hinterlands new coach which is a major coup for them will add another layer.

Last night was great. Big crowd, pretty good game of footy. Roos jumped out of the blocks. Probably the worse Caloundra played all year. During the early part of the third qtr Caloundra jumped out to a 2 1/2 goal lead and it looked like they were about to blow it apart, but a rain shower tightened up the contest. Maroochydore were much tougher around the footy and got back in front. Last qtr went goal for goal. Just a couple of opportunistic Caloundra goals became the difference.

yeah a great game. looked like a decent crowd in. was there many neutrals?

looks like the rain and maybe lack of match fitness brought panthers back a bit. had to laugh at the funny buggers at 3 quarter time, players running through the oppo huddle

also hope the fella from Marcellin is ok

The clash was heavy. Looked like the guy who came off second best wasn’t quite in a position to protect himself. So much for Freddy saying it’s just kick and giggle.
