🌩️ Expression of Interest – Senior Coach 2026 Season 🌩️

Greater Springfield Storm AFC invites expressions of interest for the Senior Coach role for the 2026 season — a unique opportunity to lead our senior program and help transition the Storm into QFA Division 2 Saturday football by 2027.

About the Role 📒

We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Coach to guide our senior team on Friday nights while building the pathway into Saturday competition. The successful candidate will mentor and educate our playing group, instil strong standards, and support the club as we take this exciting next step in our football journey.

Why This is an Exciting Time to Join !

The Storm has now completed the full junior-to-senior pathway, proudly hosting teams in every age group. This ensures a consistent and exciting flow of players graduating into senior football over the coming years.

For the right coach, this is a rare opportunity to:

Drive the development of a whole-of-club football program.

Influence both current senior players and emerging juniors through mentoring and alignment.

Collaborate with and support youth coaches, ensuring smooth transition from junior to senior football.

Leave a lasting legacy by shaping the future direction of player development and senior performance.

Recently AFLQ endorsed Venue Improvement Plan highlighting our pathway to QAFL and represent Ipswich at the highest local level.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

Hold a Level 2 AFL Coaching Accreditation (or be working toward it).

Bring experience in senior football operations, ideally within Saturday competitions, or demonstrate the drive to step into this environment.

Be well-organised, disciplined, and professional, setting standards on and off the field.

Show strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to connect with players, volunteers, and the broader club community.

Emphasise player development, game education, and culture-building.

Recommended Skills & Certifications

First Aid / Sports Trainer accreditation (highly desirable).

Familiarity with AFL Coach Development programs and CoachAFL resources.

Knowledge of strength & conditioning principles and player welfare.

Ability to create and implement structured training plans, match-day strategies, and game reviews.

Experience working alongside assistant coaches, support staff, and football operations.

Why Join the Storm?

Opportunity to shape the future of a young, ambitious club.

Be the coach who leads Storm into Saturday senior football.

Influence player development across a complete club pathway.

Supportive committee and football operations team committed to providing the right resources.

Our Football Operations team will provide strong administrative and operational support, allowing the coach to focus on football.

Be part of a community-driven club with a strong junior base, inclusive culture, and exciting growth ahead.

if it makes sense, then its probably less likely to happen given the adminstration of the game in Queensland.

We just added a license in inner Brisbane where there are already 5 clubs within 15-20km of the Brisbane CBD!

Logic would have one in Logan and/or Ipswich for sure, which is why it won't happen...

What other clubs are looking at going into Div 3?
You’d think they wouldn’t want anymore Brisbane south teams as it’s already a big comp. Even though Jindalee are EOI.

Curious to know if any GC teams come in since both PAC Pines teams left. Or the brissy north comp for that matter.

Well technically Moorooka and Ipswich should be going to. Saturdays so that's 4 teams out of the comp.

does anyone read Gympie's coaching EOI as saying they'll have one mens team next season?
Have heard that they’ve been asked to leave division 2, no idea if actually true but something I’ve heard. Unsure if they’d keep both squads and go to wide bay again or 1 team for Friday night comp.

They’d be silly to stay in Div 2, but Div 3 SC isn’t going to be a walk in the park for them.

Am I correct in saying you don’t need two teams to participate in the wide bay comp?

You can yes however I think Gympie being a large town they get too many players to be a 1 team club. Pomona are a 1 team club. Maryborough are also a 1 team club but tend to stick to the reserves comp. I’d say Wide Bay league would prefer you have 2 teams if you’re to play in the senior competition though. I think Gympie would be silly to stay in Division 2 hasn’t been a successful attempt at all. Spent 7 years at the bottom of the table. I think they’d be a lot more competitive in division 3 sc though even if it is still not a walk in the park.

What actually happened to Bribie? They were pretty strong back in the Div 5 days. Went up to Div 4 and just never found the same success and then fell apart pretty quickly after that? Be nice to see them with a senior team.

I’ve heard Pomonas ground been called a lot of things and great isn’t one of them. They should be able to turn it into a bit of a fortress making things uncomfortable for visiting teams
Obviously depends who they have playing there. Long time since their best years in the early 2010s. They did used to be at another level at home I don’t think we ever beat them on their deck
