that would make the south comp significantly stronger, which defeats the purpose of these things
Probably right but with a boom on the Sunny Coast with new teams and now teams from Gold Coast you'd think the north/south split needs to come in.

Yes you're correct but only hopefully initially! With a more structured competition and even less travel that may entice some players who don't want the rigors of training 2 nights a week and then gone all day Saturday's to filter back to some of these clubs which in turn should strengthen the competition.

This division will always be a s**t show. It will change every year with teams coming in and out.

Its no superstar quality like your Div2 North ressies team of course Freddy but it does seems to be popular considering in 2020 there were 17 teams playing Friday nights now there are 32 proposed for 2023.
Gee that’s a massive increase in Friday night footy teams although with only QAFL hosting colts probably bound to happen

I agree with all that - but who is to say that it makes sense to stay with lower level footy on Saturdays ie div 2 reserve footy and maybe even div 1 reserve footy. Just bc there is a % of people that would love this to happen doesn't mean that it should. It is possibly just a changing face of the football environment. Considering the basket case that is Victorian football space right now with country clubs folding / merging every season maybe they should take note too and recognise that in the 21st century committing a whole day to football of your weekend is not necessarily everyones cup of tea. Especially with flexible work hours, greater casualisation of the workforce, family pressures maybe blokes want to have a kick on a Friday night and then be able to say to their families / mates that the weekend is free for whatever.

Also, why would any club want to move their group from Fridays to Saturdays?

If you’ve got a women’s team and a men’s team it could be beneficial for the two to occasionally play on the same day for events such as Family Day/Sponsor Day/Heritage Day/premiership reunions etc. which has the potential to encourage juniors to come and watch/be involved or even be curtain raisers! This all increases canteen/bar takings.

Last year, UQ barely opened a bar for Friday night footy and blokes went the BYO option on Fridays! From memory it was the field next door who had the bar open!

Different story at Aspley where they’ve always got the bar open and the pensioner’s pianos humming away and money isn’t an issue.

just needs to me more of a leadership role from AFLQ about mass movement of players.

There are little groups of 5-6 players and a coach who have literally been at 5 or 6 clubs in 10 years.

At some point, it needs to be recognised that the clubs aren't the problem, but a struggling club needs to stick to their guns and not let these blokes in the door, as they will be gone in 18 months, spent any money you thought you have and will take a few extra players with them on the way out.

Should be rules against 5 or more players moving from one club to another, just like there are in womens footy.

What rule is there on womens footy regarding players moving clubs?

5 or more from one club to another in one off-season requires approval from the league, or something to that effect.
