As mentioned the salary cap is $25k in QAFLW, however, some clubs are clearly being "creative" with what they doing. Sign on fees, paid player registrations on top of player payments. My understanding is that Aspley was close to the cap in 2025 yet they have brought in more than a dozen new recruits already for next season. I've been told that they are paying a 15yo $40 a game to leave her current club plus paying their reserves players. Can't see how this all fits into the current criteria.
Bloody sad if indeed the case

Have a read of the AFLQ Total Player Payments Policy.

There’s a lot of misunderstanding about what is considered in the cap, and what isn’t.

Might be for you and I, but not so straight forwards others who obviously haven’t read it.
It depends what is classed as a payment. Clubs and possibly aflq are only counting match payments as payments. Things like registration fees, gym memberships, gameday attire are all classed as "soft cap" items. That works fine for clubs that have pokies and other income sources. However, clubs that rely on rego fees as an income source are severely disadvantaged. Besides if you ask most of the girls playing (alot of them are 18-23yo who live paycheck to paycheck), they consider a club paying their rego fees as a cash inducement even if aflq try and frame it as "soft cap" - it's more bulldust than soft cap. I'll give you a confirmed fact. Southport cover all of their 50 odd players rego fees. Most fees are around $500 (hence $500 multiplied by 50 players is $25,000) They then pay EVERY player $50 per senior game. 21 players x $50 x 16 games = $16,800. They also provide all apparel and gym memberships. Pretty difficult to compete with that when you are asking players to pay their rego fees even if they are getting match payments. There is an obvious and simple fix here to create more competitive balance in QAFLW. Btw Southport, Aspley and Morningside have access to pokies thru a sports club. Bond Uni sponsors the competition and provide everything to their players. Coincidentally they are 4 of the power clubs in the comp. The other 6 teams don't have such financial backing. Thoughts on a solution?

Having all local clubs install poke machines, by the sound of things lol

Either way. Both Yeronga and Mt Gravatt have been winless for both the 2024 and 2025 season of their respective state league comps.

Yeronga is at least going all in both on and off the field to get the best staff possible. Mt Gravatt are resigning the same players and are relying on interstate players to come due to their ‘come play in the sunshine state’ post.

Not sure Yeronga can win a game but at least scoring each game would be a good start next year. And not forfeiting would be the other main aspect.

Very curious to know what was outlined for Mt Gravatt’s ‘pillars for success’ were to stay in QAFL compared to Yeronga’s to stay in QAFLW.

Think whilst most on here aren’t super fans of AFLQ. If their decisions were consistent to a degree then I think that would go a long way to letting clubs know where they stand. As clearly some are told different to others.

Also, to keep this ‘Div 4&5’ forum as is. I see Broady and Surfers are interested in Friday night footy. Along with Burleigh that’ll make the GC comp a nice sized comp.

Good call on keeping Friday night footy on this channel. I enjoy the QAFL/QAFLW chats but they have their own forums. Freddy starting to grumble about his Friday night footy not getting the spotlight it deserves.

A couple of Friday discussion points. Who do Coorparoo and Southport play off against in their local divisions. They appear massive standouts. Broady and Surfers will do it well in 2026. Good clubs with plenty of good footy people around to make it work.

Word on the street is Beenleigh heavily favoured for the Friday night schedule based on some defections.

What is going on out at Eagles? And how’s the advert for Springfield chasing a Kevin Sheedy to make them 2 teams & then convert them into powerhouses in Saturday footy. Fantastic that they’re aiming high. Wondering how Neighbouring Collingwood Park feel about it.

Interested in Marcelin backing up. How will Sandgate & UQ respond particularly if their Saturday troop gain some numbers? How transient are the Ferny lads?

Sunny coast seem to enjoy a return to their own localised comp. Kawana a year older & Pomona lads coming in. Just need Noosa to join the fray? Super impressed that Glasshouse made inroads this year. How are they looking for 2026? Will Hinterland’s 3rds be affected by the Gympie defections?

So obviously Southport are outside the salary cap. So why isn’t anything done about it?

Because under current aflq rules, a club paying players regos is not part of the salary cap in QAFLW. So Southport are within the cap. Simple fix- aflq make paying players registrations part of salary cap. This simple change will create better competitive balance. In the Southport example they could still pay the regos but can't pay match payments. Gives a chance to other clubs who don't have as deep pockets to be in the recruitment conversation.

Cmon, that actually makes sense

AFLQ will never do that

I saw Pomona held onto Rhys Magin he’ll be tough to stop in Friday night footy. Has won the league goal kicking award his last 3 seasons, EDFL in 2023, Wide bay comp last season and in 2024 for Hinterland. That’s gonna be a tough outing for the leagues full backs

Hinterland thirds I’m wondering if they’ll get enough players to field a side after the defection to Gympie. Doubtful after struggling last season.

Kawana I’ve heard have been recruiting heavily as they’re trying to step up to Division 2.

Heard nothing about Bribie or if Noosa is looking to field a thirds.
