Driving home now, think it’s easy to walk away feeling beat up as it was a mauling tonight but we have a very good tendency to respond to adversity and bounce back after a poor performance.

Beat Freo/Suns at home and it’s Collingwood in a Prelim. We’ll either be ready to dance on ice again or be overawed. If we dance though, our best is the best.

Bit like how we used to play post bye up until last year

Our pressure rating was higher than theirs for the first quarter but the difference was we were fumbling and turning it over
The skill errors compounded into a disease . The backline held it together really well through that first quarter when at one point we had 3 goals from 4 entries and we were able to rush a lot of theirs through.

But the signs were never good. We can turn it around for sure but you just have to wonder whether we have it in us to win a couple more.

Not sure the workrate was their up the field either to create space and give options for Zorko, Jaspa, etc.

Aside from the first 5-10min our defence was good. They had plenty of entries you can’t defend but the ones that were defendable we did well. Especially Harris and Gardiner.

I honestly can’t believe the carry on about the Rayner double goal.
They were both there. They were soft, sure, but they were there.
Rayner had a free kick against for pushing the guy in the chest not that much earlier but it was crickets.

They were without a doubt a better team than us tonight. But that doesn’t change the fact that there were plenty of obvious missed calls that directly lead to Geelong winning the ball back and scoring.
There were clear throws that weren’t called both ways. The Starcevich throw when he had someone hanging off his neck was an interesting one.
There was the clear block from Dangerfield in the marking contest that lead to an easy goal. So for the Victorian media to sit there and pick out those two free kicks is pathetic.

Big question going in was if Geelong's easy run in would be to their disadvantage. They were fine.

Bit too much for us. A bit underdone, bit too banged up, bit too far down the depth chart. I don't think our effort was generally too bad but we certainly not at their level.

Their shooting and indiscipline kept us in it probably longer than we necessarily deserved.
It looked like a good team that had the easiest fixture on record vs a good team that had the hardest fixture on record.
Our theory about coming battle hardened last season, appeared to fall apart - we just looked like we had a hard season.

Onto next week. That's what the double chance was all about.

Never dropped their heads, played an injury free well rested and drilled side and came off second best. The more finals games we pump into these kids the longer our dynasty will last. Like Fagan said afterwards let's just worry about next week, not premierships.

It wasn’t the gameplan. They pressured and ran hard. It’s very simple, we don’t need to overcomplicate things

Shut down our clearances and our ball movement so we have nothing left
Think their positioning to shut down out ball movement and corridor kicking was a game plan that worked very well

That was evident . Some of the kicks they were forced to take didn't pay off because of a lack of options.

The best bit of play was the goal Jaspa kicked which he basically set up and completed on his own.

Spare a thought for that umpire who paid the Rayner frees and who will spend the remainder of his days in an Eddie McGuire and Jeff Kennett run VFL prison under Marvel Stadium.

You will be remembered.
We need to bust him out of there. We've had so many umpires biased against us, now that we've finally found one who is for us we need to cling to him like a life raft.

I just can't stop thinking our midfield mix is still wrong.

When you have Wash and Bailey playing ostensibly for themselves, Hugh getting ridden into the ground because no one bothers to help out, it leaves Dunks to actually try and shut it down. Geelong waltzed it out of the middle like it was on a string. It's scary when Forty offers more defensive work than half the bloody midfield who run past the ball.

Running Lash through there at times was equally crazy because he's still to sort out his decision making - the hospital handpasses from both Ashcrofts needs a stat of their own. Mind you they weren't alone tonight, we made an art form of giving the ball to players in a worse position. And even Lachie was a repeat offender.

I'm torn on Rayner in the goal square - nothing else worked so I get it but he needs to be the bull in the middle when were getting pantsed more then less. If we can't win the ball he's just wasted.

Injuries have killed us no doubt. But geez there are a few players who are having so little impact in crucial moments - have done for a while - it's no wonder we got rolled tonight. Finals pressure shows up the players out of form and we have a few.

To be fair I sort of expected this result... but holy geez it still sucks bad.

Remember, the VFL media are the same festering turds who hounded Conor McKenna out of the country during Covid for going to a house inspection. I take great schadenfreude in anything that upsets them, and hope they remain perpetually outraged. Their performative tears are almost as sweet as that of Cotton On FC fans.
