Watched the highlights of the Prelim classic again this afternoon, still gives me goosebumps.

2024.
Cats- 15-8, 112.2%
Lions- 14-8-1, 121.9%

2025.
Cats- 17-6, 141.5%
Lions- 16-6-1, 114.2%

Mitigating factor is our much harder draw and our propensity to not be right up for supposedly easier opposition.

Top 8 v top 8 we are the best, Lions by 4 goals.

I agree. They were both great against Hawthorn. Hard to be a tasked with selecting the side for Friday week.

Got my tickets organised today. Looking forward to the pre-match festivities at the London Tavern before the game. Should be a fun night.

I tend to fall on the Marshall side; I just see his celling being higher and exposure to finals will only advance his development. It's such a line ball choice that exposed potential must win the day.

I personally think that Bruuuce could very well have been the Sub for the Grand Final last year if it were not for some terribly timed injuries late last year.
So I think it’s his time, and Marshall next in line imo.

Yeah, but I reckon it is so lineball that , as sub, it is easier to sub Marshall for Reville than the other way round.

FWIW Hipwood was primarily drafted as a forward prospect. He alternated on and off throughout his junior rep games but he showed more and was drafted at pick 14 off his forward efforts (and named a certain Joe Daniher as the player to model himself after).

Minor nitpick. :D
Very minor but thats just you. In the U18s he was selected as a back but did get swung forward against Tasmania, he was recruited on his flexibility, my point is still valid players can develop and move.

The sad thing is, Brisbane actually was promoting a charity during last Sunday's hawthorn game and they had sponsors who would donate 40k for each goal we kicked during that game. Kicking 8 goals 23 kinda was made even more embarrassing. Someone even joked that it would have been over 1 million if we kicked straight
saw on a podcast called unpopular opinion, with Lynch and Rockliff that the sponsor obviously had deep pockets and a budget as they ended up paying 40k per point ie 23 times 40k :) instead.

There are many areas your team is superior.
But it's not our fault the second half draw included Swans and Port- last year's #1 and 2 pre finals.
Ordinarily, I feel too old and stressed to go to finals, but went to the Prelim24, and going on Friday night. Main reason- I actually love watching Brisbane play. If we can't win it this year, I'd be happy with a Pies -Lions GF. And the best team in it would win.

Only the truly unhinged or stupid would claim that the AFL contrived a cushy draw deliberately for Geelong. But it is as cushy as ours has been historically difficult. That's just a sad quirk, and one that could have real implications for the teams' finishing positions, injury lists and readiness going into the finals.

the prelim last year was exceptional. would say it is the best game of footy ive been to in terms of the quality of play.

will also be attending on friday. making the trip from the western district and more than anything just hoping to see another high level game. lot of great battles and respect between our clubs in the last 2-3 years.

Geelong doesn’t choose its draw but I do wonder whether that has greatly contributed to your injury list which has 1 guy on it, from the vfl. It’s been a pretty good draw for a PF team.

The ability to manage players and not have such a slog is a big benefit.

The AFL didn't deliberately contrive a cushy fixture for Geelong this year - it is just the usual application of the favourable natural circumstances for the Cats fixture every year.

Going to be up in Queensland when the game's on. Think we will win by less than 2 goals
