Random thought for the day:

Seven consecutive final series now, after one in the previous fourteen years.

Lot's of hope and optimism in these couple of weeks, and every year it's exciting. We're very lucky to be supporters of such a great team right now.
We are the “new” Geelong.

Sooner or later the rest of the league is going to start talking about those Brighton Homes apprenticeships our players have over the offseason.

Yes sitting through the Leppa years at the Gabba with half the crowds we are getting these days were strangely masochistically melancholy.

Under Leppa we got progressively worse every season from 7 to 4 to 3 wins from 2014>16.

At least with Vossy while we were not successful we did win in progression 13 + 1 Final in his first year followed by 7, 4, 10 and 10 wins over the ensuing seasons.

In the mix

The Lions will be bolstered by the return of Lachie Neale (quad) and Jarrod Berry (shoulder) to face Geelong in Friday night’s qualifying final. Aside from who they leave out to accommodate the two regulars, the only other selection question remains over whether they stick with two-game forward Ty Gallop while Hipwood continues rehab from his injury. Gallop played in the final round against Hawthorn and should have done enough to keep his spot alongside Sam Day and Logan Morris. Oscar McInerney was excellent in the VFL at the weekend and would be on standby should there be any late hiccups with the talls. – Michael Whiting

In the mix

The Cats are perfectly placed to field their strongest side against the Lions on Friday night. Mark O’Connor, who missed round 24 through a leg injury, will be available for selection after completing a solid block of training. The Cats’ VFL team’s season is over, so there are no more chances at state-league level for players to impress. - Michael Rogers

Hippy listed as 1-2 weeks away, should be fine for the Prelim :D .

Such bad luck Answerth and Payne didn't make it through to finals, we'd be nigh on unbeatable with them 2 in.

Kiddy, Linc and Doedee were never a chance this season.

It’s a darn the shame the misfortune Kidsy has had. Obviously we were all expecting him to be a key component of our back six and like Doedee, to have only had them for one game each and them repeatedly breaking down is such a shame, especially Kiddy.

Here’s hoping they each have significantly better luck in 26, otherwise if they can’t consistently get on the park and play at least three quarters of the seasons their careers I think are pretty much done.

Here is a interesting bit on Sam Day

I thought some of the things he did in the ruck against Hawthorn were quite good.

Kiddy is only 25. Even if he did have another miserable season with injury next year his career would be far from done.

Definitely the Pies. They're cooked
Not so sure about this. Getting a lot of Lions 2019 vibes from the Crows (especially in recent weeks - North's Round 24 scoring chart in particular is very ugly viewing for Crows fans), and also getting lots of Collingwood 2002 vibes from the current Collingwood team.

History may not repeat but it often rhymes.

I think after Hawthorn beat Collingwood I'd have agreed with you but I just have a funny feeling about what we might see on Thursday night.

If we lose this game, I'm going to say we have done it on purpose to avoid a Gabba prelim against GWS. We would rather feast on the inexperienced Crows in front of their home crowd or embarrass Collingwood at the MCG... :joycat:

Half? There were years where they announced a crowd of 10k and it was clearly a lie.

Our kids still have a collection of balls the players hand out after games cause they were the only kids in our section. When there was an actual win they would hand out heaps at a time.

Remember when we used to get a copy of the courier mail for free a we left the game?

And when we won you could read reports from multiple online news media (who had clearly been at the game) on the way home?

They were not the good old days, just have to remember the few positive things

There's a lot of interesting analysis about this game on the Cats board, it seems they're mostly concerned about our mids, Andrews, and Zorko. Three players they haven't mentioned at all are Lohmann, Wilmot, and Ah Chee - which suits me fine 🙂.

Thats because Cats are only used to shutting down 1 or 2 players in the bottom 9 😃
