Can anyone enlighten me as to what was going on in the Member's at QT? Saw some bloke with a jacket and monopoly money and a whole lot of jeering.

Wasn't one of ours, was it?

Cheers

Some melb supporter wearing a melbourne jacket with monopoly money pinned to it, he was about to be escorted out by security, crowd booed security with statements like he paid his money, he didn't do anything wrong (maybe someone made a complaint), eventually he was allowed to stay but jacket had to come off.

I was directly above him. Security tried to kick him out for having a jacket covered in fake money (looked better than monopoly) but the crowd all jeered them. He then tried bribing them away with his fake money before agreeing to take the jacket off so he could stay. I would've joined the bigfooty gang but had to babysit my 1 year old at the last minute so he got to learn a few new words whenever Scully got near the ball. :).

In the MCC there was a bit of Monopoly Money being thrown up the front late in the 4th. Before the game at the Punt Road end, security also stopped a guy holding up a banner about scully.

Also a few guys in the MCC right behind the GWS bench with coins in bags, rattling them as Scully went to the bench.

There was something going on in the Southern Stand (punt road side of the wing, bottom level) at quarter time as well. Security had a lot to say but eventually walked off without ejecting anyone. Couldn't quite see from where I was, looked entertaining though.

Exactly what I'm discussing. We were sitting a few rows across but couldn't tell who the vitriol was being directed at.

AFL Members was what I was referring to. Is that the wrong way to describe it? Didn't mean MCC.
Ah, cool. I just assume that when people talk about the "members" they're referring to the MCC or the MFC members area in the Northern Stand. I'm an AFL member myself so am happy if we take over the mantle of "The Members".

Usually if you say 'the members' or 'the members wing' - you are referring to the green coloured Melbourne Cricket Club seating area.

Cant blame security for removing his jacket - the MCC have a pretty strict dress code. If he got kicked out of the southern stand I would be outraged though!

I was sitting just in front of the fella and saw the whole thing happen. The guy had a jacket with fake money pinned all over it and a couple of paper bags filled in fake money also. After a goal was kicked (can't remember if it was us or them) he went down to the boundary line and was trying to bribe the boundary umpire to make some calls our way. Was pretty funny. One of the security guards on the other side of the fence saw him and called for guys to escort him away, saying he was swearing, which he wasn't. Anyway the guards took him away, they had a chat at the top to the stairs and then he was able to return.

Would have been ridiculous had he been asked to leave. But the crowd got involved and sanity returned!

I think Bluemarq on the main board nailed what's really going on with this.

Chances are the AFL was so sensitive to those banners because the player in question is part of the AFL's newest club, which Vlad has gambled $$$$$ and years of draft picks on - and which is thus far failing in every way, just as Franchise One is.

They weren't so sensitive when St Kilda fans were giving it to "Ro$$ Lyin" with both barrels, when the Dockers came over to Melbourne.

It's very clear that GW$ have been something of a protected species when it comes to public scrutiny and opinions being voiced about them in the public arena.

Doubtless the fact they couldn't even get 8000 through the gate against Richmond last week - at least half being Richmond fans - would have been one of the factors in such considerations...
