A Wimbledon Tennis final of Borg and McEnroe around same time period I probably stayed up and watch every bit of play for 4 or 5 hours.

Those days as a school-kid where you would take your pillow & doona to the lounge-room and turn on the telly at 11pm to watch Wimbledon. Oh wait - that's today too...

I had a late night as a teen in the loungeroom and ended up staying there. For a month I was comfy just sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag. Eventually I think mum cracked it.

Think how boring a republican funeral will be: "President" Bloggs dies, members of the public make polite comments "he/she was a good bloke/sheila", a handful of dignitaries obliged to turn up at the state funeral service conducted in a convention centre by a secular celebrant, next day we have to go to the trouble of electing another president. Bloggs is already consigned to history, unlamented. No public holiday, btw.
