I'd be surprised if Anzac Eve remained permanent for you lot when you guys dive down the ladder.

Melbourne supporters are notorious for hibernating when they're not a top 6 side - and let's face it, you're not a top 6 side often.

QB has been the only permanent blockbuster fixture you guys have kept over the many bad years, courtesy of Collingwood. If I were Melbourne, I'd do everything I can to keep the fixture. We can survive without it, can you?
Anzac Eve is here to stay, been a huge success, no reason to get rid of it.

I think all clubs struggling down the bottom get supporters not turning up, not just Melbourne, but with Melbourne struggling for many years there are plenty of years where we decide to go to the snow instead

Geez Eddie is full of it. The basis of his statement that the alternating home game is a done deal is his convo with a former board member?

Think it's more logical to conclude his basis for the statement is that we've been voluntarily choosing to forego the rights to the alternative fixture when it comes to Queen's Birthday, something that I doubt we are obliged to be doing.

Good, one down one to go. Next step is to stop hosting one of the Etihad tenants on their ground each year.

We won't be able to dodge that one - it's part of the new Etihad agreement if what I heard on the weekend is correct.

Eddie said a couple weeks ago that we will NEVER play a Marvel Tenant there again.

Lets see how powerful Eddie is.

P.S Just been offered 25% off tickets for the game on Monday.
We have given them enough charity IMO...…..time to stand on your own two feet Dees.

Eddie better be careful what he asks for.

Might end up with more away games there instead. Or away games at Launceston or Geelong.

Etihad is just a second home ground to a Victorian club. Cant see the fuss. All Victorian clubs should easily be able to manage playing at the MCG or Etihad and not feel they are disadvantaged there. If they do feel disadvantaged then they re making excuses.

An easy fix to it all is give us our fair share of interstate home games. We constantly play away five times and play at home only four times. Give us an extra home game v an interstate team and one less v a Vic team and play it at Marvel. Bingo. Fixed.

Eddie better be careful what he asks for.

I'll back Eddie in on this one.........he wasn't asked to help broker the new stadium deals for the shits and giggles.

In big business you don't get nothing for nothing.

I doubt we will end up with any more games at the MCG given we play so many there already.

Whatever we gain in less home games at Etihad and more at the MCG, we will lose in more away games at Etihad (or worse) and less at the MCG.

I didn't say we will get MORE games at the MCG.

We should only be playing interstate teams at Marvel...….I don't think that is asking too much......either does Eddie.

You know in the other thread you said the AFL is not that powerful?

Now you are saying the AFL will make us play games in Botswana if Eddie isn't careful. :drunk:

I think Eddie knows what he is doing on this one Timmy.

It could possibley remain the same number of games at the MCG
Play Melb at MCG as a Collingwood (alternating) home game
Play Freo at Marvel
Sure it would appear we pick up an extra home game in one year, but that could be 'evened-up' in the next year

Yep thats a minor tweak that could work although the whinging interstate clubs willl rightly claim they dont play much football at the MCG where finals are played.

DOnt think the AFL will go for 12 home games though, so every other year further tweaking would have to happen, probably at the expense of another interstate team missing out on a game at the G

What should Eddie have said?
Maybe something similar to the Melbourne CEO's comments. That discussions are on-going. And these discussions might shape what Melbourne and Collingwood submit to the AFL in their fixturing requests. Then the AFL makes the decision on fixturing.

Eddie saying he has done a deal on something the Club doesn't have the power to govern is his usual bluster-laden approach. Just like when he decided he could re-name Vic Park...

So Collingwood can give Melbourne the Home game when Collingwood decides to, but not take it back when Collingwood decides to?
Because that is what Ed is saying, right?

Interesting question, not sure its the matter being discussed, is it?
It gets raised on BF this time every year. I thought it would be interesting to get people's thoughts on it before and after the game.

At the risk of getting too carried away on this point, what Ed seemed to be saying was that agreements are in place between Melb and Collingwood about who gets next year's QB game home game.

This does not seem to be supported by the Melbourne CEO's response which is that discussions were on-going with Collingwood's CEO around what we would submit to the AFL around fixturing - which admittedly would then typically be approved by the AFL. This sounds reasonable.

Sounds less reasonable that Eddie says things are all locked away because he has spoken to a former Dees director about it?

Even if that were true the AFL can fix that. There is no reason we should be playing against tennant clubs there.

Pretty simple fix. Four of our five home games v Interstate clubs were at the MCG this year (Giants Dockers Eagles Power). Just switch one of them to Etihad and swap them with our home games at Etihad v tenants. I only see one of those on our calendar anyway (the Dogs game) so I dont see the fuss. Our only other game v a Etihad tenant was v StKilda and it was their home game.

Much ado about nothing really.

This is all bluff and bluster. and will get resolved. Melbourne are financially struggling with the concept of weaning themselves off their reliance on this game to keep them afloat and dont want Collingwood to simply taking half what they consider to be their money without sacrificing elsewhere on the calendar

I'm more than comfortable Collingwood giving up a single home game against Richmond Carlton or Essendon on years that we get a home QB game v Melbourne. I dont see why we should be automatically entitled to two games every year vs these clubs anyway.. I'd like a rolling draw but thats another topic.

Suggest we have an QB home game on alternate years to getting the ANZAC Day home game so we enjoy a massive home gate every year and dont miss out on alternate years.
