Bit harsh there against Gibbsy.

Something that I've wondered for a while now, and it's one that perhaps only Mero or one of the serious Eagles jumper collectors here can answer;
but why did West Coast change from the Peril to the Royal wings jumper in 1988?

It was obviously one of the first dedicated clash jumpers (worn against Hawthorn, as coincidentally did the Bears), but somewhere along the line it became the favoured strip. Mero's site has it listed that R18, a home game against Melbourne, marked the full-term adoption.

Was it the players, the supporters... or, dare I say it, a sudden drycleaning mishap ala Footscray 1935? :p

From a YouTube clip from 1988, it seems as though the jumpers' roles were not reversed either... the Royal was still worn away against the Bulldogs from that point, all the way till the navy revolution.

Anyone shed some light?

I thought it was a public outcry. We looked soft/fat/like a canary in the peril getup. especially with the yellow shorts

Can we get all the 2012 jumper idea portfolios put into the 1 thread? It's driving me nuts that we have 4 of them on the main board. I'm fine with other types of portfolios. This was also question by SHP on the Customer service board.

I'm in two minds about the idea. While the multitude of topics does clog up the first page a bit, it's just not fair to each topic creator who want's their ideas shown to the whole board. When the threads would be merged, designs from each portfolio would shuffle together, and not be shown in order and such. Plus we have P_M's thread, where he has a number of ideas and a large number of posts. That thread alone would take up most of the superthread.

Yeah, the idea is to show off your own ideas and skills in one place. As Doc said, its unfair to the posters. Merging them would only create another 'jumper ideas for 2012' thread. As Doc said, people like SHP will continue to add different ideas to their threads too. If anything there should maybe be a subforum but I'd even be inclined to avoid this as no-one would really view them much. Afterall, there is a 'portfolio' prefix when creating a thread too

Here's a query that may just be a result of my tired eyes.

I frequent the Fitzroy board, as I'm pretty immersed in their history, and particularly their sad demise. I was just reading the official documentation of the Brisbane Bears - Fitzroy Football Club merger. I saw this:

b) The playing uniform of the Merged Club will, for a period of 7 years after the Merger Date for away games, comprise the existing Fitzroy playing uniform (or the existing Fitzroy preseason playing uniform) (save that the emblem shall be be BL not FFC) and for all home games and all games after 7 years, will predominately comprise all Fitzroy colours in a design approved by AFL;

Now, I understand the Lions didn't have a designated away jumper until 2004 - which was the earliest in which a new design could be appropriated. So I kind of read into this as the Brisbane Lions wearing their 1997-2009 home strip, away from home.

But of course, later in the extract, it is detailed that there will be a new design. This new jumper would be the home strip worn by the Lions from 1997-2009.

So, what was the supposed away kit going to be? Is this just an overly complicated way of saying that the Brisbane Lions would have to wear (what was) their home strip, away from home?

I read that as:
1997-2003 Home Brisbane. Away Fitzroy
2004 - Fitzroy

By choosing a dark Maroon colour, with a Blue yoke, they have met this condition, given these were Fitzroy's colours and the design they were in, before colour TV.

No 97-03 away though  From what I read that was supposed to be a replica of the old home but with a 'BL' monogram instead of an 'FFC' one. People should mock up their own interpretations of these 'stipulations'

From what I read that was supposed to be a replica of the old home but with a 'BL' monogram instead of an 'FFC' one.
That's how I interpreted it.

The existing playing uniform was the red and royal design. Not the maroon and darker blue used by the Brisbane Lions later on. So as PAFC has said, the proposed and stipulated jumper was the '96 Fitzroy jumper with a Brisbane Lions monogram/logo (which, as is previously stipulated in the guidelines, was to be the Fitzroy lion).

So that should have been the away jumper.

Yet the whole situation promised in the agreement didn't occur. It almost seems the inverse occurs: Instead of having an away jumper for the first seven years, they didn't have one for seven years.

I think this occurred: The newly designed top - as worn by the Lions from the 1997 to 2009 season - was appropriated by Fitzroy. They deemed it acceptable as an away jumper as well - as it contained the basic design and colour of a Fitzroy design (that of the one worn before colour TV). It also had the Fitzroy Lion. And so, it was worn in all games.

The Brisbane Bears changed the arrangement from what they had written in the merger agreement. The Bears decided in the end that the Fitzroy jumper should be worn, except that it was modified to include the Queensland/Fitzroy maroon. The Fitzroy Lion replaced the FFC monogram.

I think this occurred: The newly designed top - as worn by the Lions from the 1997 to 2009 season - was appropriated by Fitzroy.

Fitzroy Football Club had no say whatsoever. They weren't in a position to complain between 1997-2004 and by the time they were, the time frame stipulated had run out. The Bears / Lions made all the decisions on what their official uniform was.

They deemed it acceptable as an away jumper as well - as it contained the basic design and colour of a Fitzroy design (that of the one worn before colour TV). It also had the Fitzroy Lion. And so, it was worn in all games.

Fitzroy had no say in this either. It was Fitzroy's preference that the official Fitzroy jumper be worn for all Melbourne games. Dyson Hore-Lacy (Fitzroy's president from 1992-2009 told me this personally at the time.

So, originally Fitzroy wanted something like what was worn in 2009 (for Victorian games), but, from the get go?

So does anyone actually believe it was a merger, and not a takeover?
They just took the best few players, changed their name from Bears to Lions and added Blue to their colours and continued on as if nothing happened.
Fitzroy got lied to, screwed over, and then told to enjoy the premierships 'their team' went on to win.

Completely agree with you Mero.

This is the real Fitzroy, nothing else.

Fitzroy FC

Yeah, I most certainly realise this. If anyone hasn't, I recommend reading 'The White Ant Files' on the 'Roys BF section. Pretty terrible to see a club of such tradition to be treated so appallingly.

Can someone simplify this logo for me???

Hey guys, think I just found out a new, better way to simplify things on word. Just bump the contrast up fully and it retains all the colour pretty well. Still needs a little cleaning up though and some of the colours are out. Is better for things which have lots of light/dark bits that won't simplify well by making it black and white (i.e. that crocs logo).
Sorry LC16, don't have time to clean it all properly that way for you atm but give it a crack yourself if you need it done. I'm using 03 word btw but that shouldn't make any difference if you only have 2007 or 2010

I would, but to help out the competition with a logo that looks very similar (you could say it is almost exactly the same) to one I am working on leaves me conflicted!!!:p

Also I wouldn't have a clue how to do that anyway!!!

Would do it if I still had PS, but I only have paint and it's pretty long process on paint. :(

How do you do it on PS? Can't you just do it on word anyway? Surely you have that!

You can't really do the whole process on PS, you just make it a lot easier and less time consuming if you do some of the stuff on PS.

Ahk, now I get ya :thumbsu: That's what I do on my Elements (when its installed), resize and recolour different things. So much easier and looks better than chucking everything through word.
