In my opinion:

1) Introduction, Rules, and Suggestions
• General rules and laws of the board, as well as a greeting lounge
• Include things like the ebay thread and the inability to post active bids, etc
• This kind of improvement-based talk
2) Make Your Own Jumper (w/ Examples and Comps)• An index of the plethora of tutorials
• Zip folder of paint and photoshop elements and templates
• Link to the template thread
• And then a link to the Mowscot Manor stuff
3) Footyjumpers.com• There will always be new jumpers and people seeing minor issues with Mero's designs.
4) Questions and Answers• Already full of one's from the dedicated (why did the Fila logo enlarge one year, and widen the next?)
• More basic queries, such as "when is the new Fremantle jumper out?"

Something like the 2013 jumpers thread will be updated daily anyway, so a sticky is pointless. I might do an example of the pages, if anyone is keen.

Do it SA. I like the idea of the Zip files too, just host them on like mediafire or something, show a basic outline of what's in them. Rather than having to save each individual template or design feature

I thought red and green was for the maritime port and starboard colours or something like that, with purple and white being chosen because no other club in Australia used them.

Actually the nautical lights for left and right are green and red. Thats whe they had green and red o their shoulders. The purple is a blend of the red and blue. I have read this in the media guide for the dockers circa nov 1994

That was my understanding as well.
There was a media release they put out in 1994 when the club was first formed.
Purple was the clubs main colour, as it was made up of Blue & Red, which represented the two Fremantle clubs, East Freo (Blue & White) and South Freo (Red & White).
Purple was also seen as colour worn by workers on the Docks, as Navy singlets would fade to Purple in the sun. I believe this was a secondary reason behind the choice.
White was also a club colour because of the Freo clubs.
Green and Red were club colours to represent Port & Starboard, the nautical terms that relate to the position of a ship.
Dockers was chosen as the directors felt is most closely represented the history of the Fremantle area, and wasn't just a cool name, like Hammer, Dolphins or Courage.

The media release and purported choice for purple isn't actually it. In the early 90s, some US marketing research found that purple was the best choice for any new sports franchise. It was underused, individual, and easy to work with. This blending of Old Easts and the Bulldogs was essentially an afterthought or a bit of a nice coincidence, something to entice all Fremantle footy fans.

The purple and red has never been specifically explained. There are a few valid ideas, so I really don't know. Obviously the ship-oriented Port and Starboard.

And the more iconic, more "Freo" lighthouse. There's North mole...

And South mole...

Some of the Italians 'round the place will claim they have something to do with it. There's always been a pretty vibrant immigrant community in Fremantle. Looking through the player lists for the Fremantle clubs, and you'll spot a pretty high proportion of Baltic and European surnames, more so than the north of the river, or eastern states clubs. I've never asked my old man specifically, but I think Smeagle said that Easts had a lot of Italian support, whereas Souths had more Greeks and Portuguese.

I reckon the Port and Starboard one has just been picked up the most for whatever reason. If you look at the way it's set out, it goes red to green: Fremantle's jumpers go green to red. The majority of people in Freo not having much of a connection to the ships themselves (most worked on the wharfs, it was a real a working class place). I dunno, I never really liked it as an excuse.

In my opinion – and it's just that: an opinion – the club brought in red and green for safety and monopolisation. The first Freo away jumper was that genuinely cool (I don't care what any of you say!) green affair, so maybe they were trying to completely individualise themselves – use purple and green, two distinctly un-footy colours, to lay some foundations (necessary for a club in a tough market). The red was probably the most tasteful fourth colour or something.

Would be great if said media release was found and put up here - and, really, that of all the interstate teams.
We've been spoilt with that kind of thing in Australian sport over the last few years or so, but since the Eagles and Bears they are a cornerstone for these clubs to build a culture on top of a new 'blank' identity... as corny and awkward as they may be.
