It appears as though the AIS academy players wear short sleeve jerseys when they play. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? And does it affect how they play?

They probably wear the same jumpers in Intl Rules against Ireland, so they just wore them in this game.

I would have thought the same but the jampers have Australia V New Zealand printed on the front of them.

Weird.
Maybe they're just the AIS jumpers.
If you represent Australia, for the AIS, this is the jumper they wear.
(Complete guess, but I can't imagine any other reason)

1995 preseason were the first sublimated jumpers.
Fitzroy, Hawthorn and North actually had different pre-season jumpers.
During 1995 various players from various teams wore them in various games.
