It appears as though both of the expansion clubs in 1987 had clash jumpers, which were just inverses of their homes.

Apparently West Coast first wore this in '87 against Hawthorn as a clash.

The Bears also wore a clash against Hawthorn, and also against the Eagles.

What was the first ever clash jumper?
Geelong 1914 and again in 1921 is correct.
However, during this period they also wore Red socks when they played Collingwood in various games as well, according to Geelong historian Col Hutchison.
(Go on Gibbsy find which ones)
Not technically a Clash jumper, but part of a clash uniform.
They wore them both Home and Away, because until 2007 the rule was whoever created the clash resolved it.
So a club that changed their jumpers to make them more like another club were responsible for resolving the clash.

Correct, both clubs wore their Away jumpers against Hawthorn, regardless of where they played them, and they wore these when they were the away team when they played each other.
In 1987 West Coast wore the Blue against Brisbane in Brisbane, and Brisbane wore the Maroon in Perth. (the first ever night game at the WACA)
In 1988 they played both games at the WACA as Carrara was flooded for the R3 game, so they moved it to Perth.
So Brisbane wore their Away jumpers in both games.
By 1989 when they played West Coast had adopted the Blue jumper as their Home jumper.

Thanks for that.

Make that another font query of many from me solved.

Antenna's also one of the 2 main fonts (the other being Dispatch) used in the AFL Record.

Did you ever see the instructions on how to take fonts out of a document like the Footy Record?
I can't remember where I've put them, but it's in one of the threads.
Maybe Doc could copy it to one of the tutorial type threads.

That shit's too complicated for mine.

I'll leave it to the experts.

Are you a fontist? (someone who loves fonts.)

No. I'm not any of those things.

I just like to get the footy jumpers right, so sometimes I need certain fonts.
And when you can't download them in entirety, it's good to at least get the letters you need in that font.

As far as being too complicated, you download some free software, save the pdf of the file you need.
Open the pdf in the software you downloaded, then save the individual font you want to pull out of it.
I am not a fontophile, fontist, or even a font savant, but I worked this out in 5 minutes.

Hey guys,

Just a quick question...are the AFL jumpers copy-write of the club?

Now I don't literally mean the jumper (worn by the players) with sponsors, logos etc...I mean just the arrangement of the colours on the jumper.

For example; Does Essendon have trademark over the use of black with a red sash?

I wouldn't think so, many local clubs use the same kits worn week in, week out by AFL clubs.

Before 1976 no designs or logos had copyright.
From then the names of clubs and logos were owned by the AFL.
Initially there were the cartoon logos (for kids) and shield logos for each club.
From 1976 the VFL put their logo on the jumpers, then allowed a sponsor logo on the other side.
From 1994 sponsor logo appeared on the back, and from 1997 apparel sponsors have appeared.
What makes a jumper AFL Intellectual Property (IP) is the combination of all of these.
However, what also constitutes AFL IP is the name of each of the clubs.
So local clubs can make their jumpers exactly the same as an AFL club, and are encouraged to do so.
However, they cannot use the AFL or sponsor logos in Australia.
(In my new home town, Vancouver, the Burnaby Eagles wear old West Coast jumpers without any problem)
I have often thought they could sell the PIs on EBay and get their own jumpers with the proceeds, but I think they prohibited from on-selling them.
Pascoe Vale and Kilsyth can continue wearing Black jumpers with a Red sash, and the AFL would encourage them to do so.
What they would not want is for them to make Black jumpers with a Red sash and then sell them as Essendon jumpers, because the name Essendon Bombers belongs to the AFL.
Essendon FC had to get special permission from the AFL to use their own logo on their website back before the AFL took over control of it. (and stuffed it up) That permission cost them $100,000.

its likely been asked before, but whats with the Puma jumpers that were made during the mid 90s for all teams despite a few having their own contracts. I have a few crows ones but wonder if they were still wearing adidas at the time.
