Just a few questions that I have been thinking about....

If Brisbane were to make a GF would they wear their VIC jumper or their home?

And with the introduction of GC next year, will this force Sydney to wear white shorts in away games against them (assuming GC wear red shorts) ?

Depends where it's played doesn't it? If theyre away, Swans will wear the white jumper, won't they?

God knows, after all red is a light colour...

Where do you get official shorts from? As in, shorts with the sponsors logo on the right leg? I've seen ones with the AFL logo in like every sports shop, but i'd like some official Freo away ones. Anyone got a price as well?

Freo team store, surely? Although for some reason the pics they have online are of your old style shorts...

Did any of you guyswatch the 1974 GF Flashback on Sunday between Richmond and North. Anyway I bring this up because there was a couple of things I noticed about the jumpers.

Richmond had white numbers, with no outline, on a yellow sash. This made them really hard to read when the camera zoomed out for a wide shot.

North had almost the same jumper as they do now except the back stripes are higher because there was no sponsors back in the day. There was someone wearing number 1 and this jumper was different because instead of all the stripes ending mid back, the two side ones continued up on to the shoulders, making the number 1 look like it was part of the middle stripe. I only realised that it was number 1 because it wasnt continous line and the number were black.

Probably not really ment for this thread in hindsight, but ya know. :)

Which socks did Sydney wear with their 1996/97 pre season jumper. Were they solid, hooped or something completely different.

For those of you that dont know this is what Sydney wore in 1996/97 pre season.

They wore it in 1998 at the Basin Reserve from memory too.

On a different track here, but does anyone know if there was a Record for this year's NAB Cup Grand Final?

Does anyone know anything about this jumper?

I'm guessing it was just a training jumper and "pre-season match" means intra-club match, but still, not a bad looking jumper.

My records show Fitzroy wearing Quit logos on their shorts in 1993, not 95, as this pic is dated.
Therefore, if it is 1995, the shorts are old ones, thus suggesting a practice match or a pic from training.
To me, it looks like a printed polyester jumper, which were only used from 1995 and on.
It's actually dated 27 Nov 1995 on the website, and there were no official games that day, and it was a Monday.
Now, given Fitzroy used the barbershop jumper in preseason games, that makes me think this was a different jumper again.

I therefore think it would be more likely that this was an early training session/intra-club match for Fitzroy, held at Waverley. And that the jumper is the training jumper for the 1996 season.

That is a great looking jumper! :thumbsu:

Gold coast should look at this as an example of how to do a good simple jumper, not a training jumper with the sports tonight logo. Its even in their colours!

I've actually got one of these jumpers. The one I own was worn by Ross Lyon, so it must have been worn by the club in the 1994-1995 season, as Ross went to play for the Brisbane Bears in the 1995. There was also a blue version if this jumper as you can see in this video:

It was definitely a training jumper, but it was probably used in intra-club matches, but was never worn in any pre-season matches.

Here's a pic of my one:

Just found these putrid Freo socks that I have never noticed before. Anyone know how long they were around for?

First came out with this jumper in 98 and were only used in Away games:

Not sure when, but at some stage (I want to say 2000, but am not 100% sure) they because the Home socks as well, and the last year they were used was 2002.

When were sponsors logo first put on jumpers?? Assuming the first sponsor logo was just a small one on the left brest, when was the first back logo put on the jumper??
My knowledge might fail me here but off the top of my head I think front sponsors were around 1976. Definitely late 70's.

Back sponsors were introduced in 1994 :thumbsu:

Ohhk, thanks. So the commercial pollution of footy jumpers started in the mid to late 70's and then escalated in '94.

I wish something like what the NBA uses in the US could be used by the AFL. I know nothing about how the NBA's sponsorship works, so I dunno if it would work here or not.

Im guessing the VFL logo started being put on jumpers around the same time as the first sponsorship logos??

From looking around YouTube, the first sponsors appeared in 1977.
1977
Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Hawthorn, North, Richmond & South.
1978 everyone had them.

In 77, South didn't have their until mid-year. The rest were early in the season.

They have private ownership, for starters.
Yeh, thats right. Jay-Z owns the NY Knicks, doesnt he??

The guy who owns Madison Square Gardens owns the Knicks.
They also own the New York Rangers.
I say "the guy", there's one guy who runs the company and is a major shareholder, but it's a publicly listed company.
If you wanted to own a share of the Knicks (and Rangers) you could buy shares in MSG.

Could someone please explain how to upload your guernseys from photobucket to BigFooty. I've tried and it just comes up with this
