Thank god they stopped with the Haettenschweiler. One other one that comes to mind is the one that Collingwood used in the 80's, with the U.S. college-style. Bloody awful!

Essendon also used regular Helvetica numbers on several of their early sublimated jumpers, circa 1996 (but not all). #11 definitely stood out on those ones. Those were the first-generation sublimated.

Ah yes. Port also had something similar on their first jumper.
Yeh its the same font as the one on the logo just with excessive outlines. I worked out with Identifont it was called ITC Machine, but I couldnt download this for free so Omegaville supplied me with a font called FederationHull which is pretty similar.

I would like to see Port wear their first away jumper with this number font next year for a Heritage Round, sell replicas of the jumpers and iron/press the number on for you if you like...but thats a discussion for another time and place.

That was all of them, it's just not all players wore them.
They were pox.
The numbers were ironed onto the new polyester jumpers as the sewn numbers were ripping on the cheap material.
The numbers were so dodgy you could see through them to the Red sash underneath. And they were thinner than the sewn numbers on the acryllic jumpers.
These days the numbers are printed into the design of the jumper.

I was going to blame Reebok, but I'm not sure if it was them or not.
98 was the first time the Reebok logo appeared on the Essendon jumper.

Brisbane used a funny font in 06 which I'm sure Mero could tell us the font name. Even now, some clubs numbers are slightly thicker and more spaced apart than others.

I could if I remembered. (Possibly Garamond ??)
I would probably have it written down, or on a file on a PC in my mum's garage.
You could call in for a cuppa and a quick looksee at the PC.
It's a bit far away for me to drop in.

Another one is the 03 -06 Collingwood adidas jumper used a smaller version of Helvetica.
Also, Adelaide from 06-08 used the same sized font when Collingwood went back to the larger numbers.
Also, when Geelong first put their logo on their jumper in 01, some of the numbers were exact matches for Helvetica, where others weren't.
1 for example was always the straight line with no serifs.
5 in Helvetica is not a straight line from the top to where the rounded part starts. The Geelong jumpers had the 5 from the traditional font.
2 however, was more curved at the top than the traditional numbers, as it is in Helvetica.

Wouldn't be Garamond as that's a serif font.
Garamond.

I was guessing. Having seen the other numbers, I don't think it was Garamond.

Is heritage round making a comeback?

I think I found it. Gill Sans Condensed Bold
I have a few Gill fonts but not that one... will have to hit Google

Edit: Try here

Winner.
I have a mate in the US who can look at a commercial font and tell you what it is.
A Font Savant is what I call him.
The only reason for me having that font would be to use it on the jumper, and I don't have another Gill font, except that one.

I was wondering if someone could post a tutorial on how to make templates, I want to make a Canterbury one.
BtW: Canterbury do the Sturt jerseys.
