Nah, considering nearly everyone still wore wool (that jumper is early 90s right?), was pretty advanced for its time.

Ah, so it has normal shorts. I thought it might be just a one piece!

The Essendon piece was one piece, not that I can find it a picture of it.

EDIT: I lied, I found it.

That link URL... 'short news...' Always injured, always flabby, always in average sides, and now his penis is being written about on a website literally about small things. Poor prick

We're those actually worn in games?

Yes. They also played with a triangular ball and if you kicked a goal you got 17 points on the scoreboard.

They were the material that has ended up being used in athletics.

It was advertised as being lightweight, which it was, tight, which it was, durable, which it wasn't, and was going to make it more difficult for players to get tackled. The material was really stretchy and if anything was easier to grab that the acrylic footy jumpers in use at the time.

Umm. Just, yeah.

My eyes hurt and I need therapy now.

Question: Is there a thread or any interest in a thread for designing club supporter gear?

I can't think of a thread, I think occasionally stuff goes in the "2015 AFL guernsey ideas" thread.

There is definitely interest.

Does anyone know of anyone in Melbourne who can do one/both of:
- glossy numbers in a range of colours/styles
- heat press (?) image onto a coloured shirt

Cheers.
Officeowrks can heat press images onto shirts I'm pretty sure.

Glossy numbers might be a tough one though

Look up some custom sportswear manufacturer type places SJ

There would be a stack of them in Melbourne i'm pretty sure. Places that do uniforms for amateur clubs and social teams. There would be someone who would do something similar.

Funnily enough i've spent the past day or so scouring the internet for similar sorts of places in Australia because i'm looking at getting some pregame hoodies made up for my social basketball team, the White Mutombos. Unfortunately what I have in my head is probably going to be prohibitively expensive because i'm thinking applique/twill letters arched across the chest like this:

Custom applique on an order of like 10 units is going to hurt my budget but i'll probably send a few emails to teamwear places over the next few days and see what sort of numbers i'm looking at. Our jerseys just have screenprinted numbers and team name but I know a lot of teams we play against have the sewn on twill/applique style, so it's definitely doable without being ridiculously expensive, I hope.

I guess anything is doable if I want to pay enough.

I agree that it could break the bank, but have you looked at these guys?

Yeah I found this one when I was looking through. It's actually pretty fantastic! There are a few other websites (mainly American) that do similar stuff, but i'm finding it hard to find a manufacturer with this sort of custom online designer thingo that will let me do letters right across the chest in the twill/applique type material. They are literally everywhere for existing teams but I feel like the first few quotes I get back are going to be alarmingly massive if I only want a run of 10, like $110 a hoodie or something like that.

Oh well, no harm in sending out a few emails.

Could you possibly buy however many plain hoodies without the lettering and get that stitched on or whatever separately? I know a place called Dots Per Inch did similar embroidery in Melbourne (Southland) but don't know if they are still around.

May work out cheaper.

Yeah man, there's heaps of these shops at Southland now. I can't believe I didn't think of them
