Last year when we played GWS in Round 18 they wore their clash, but in the Prelim they wore their home with white shorts. Thought it was weird at the time.
Yeah i thought the same thing. I didn't think the clash was necessary due to their orange backs but I guess the white shorts just make it a bit more clearer.

After reminiscing on famous victories on the Collingwood Board, came across this game i remember vividly. Is someone able to afford me an explanation as to why we wore white shorts in the 2009 Semi against the Crows? The game was at the MCG

Its basically the Geelong rule applied to Collingwood. Finals are an AFL-run event where they say that technically there is no "home" team per-se. They obviously determined the match up would be much better to put white shorts on the team that has white in their jumper. See also: 2010 Qualifying Final, 2011 Preliminary Final, 2012 Semi Final. All games where Collingwood was the higher-ranked (ie "home") team.

Interestingly we played them round 1 at MCG as well and the Crows wore their clash.

It's also Tex Walker's debut game which is some good trivia

That was a great game. Was right behind Tex as he kicked his first ever goal. Jared Pertenko and Myke Cook also made their debut that game.

Does anyone know the history I guess you could call it of putting the AFL logo on jumper numbers and who idea it was and why ?

I'm pretty sure it started in 2007, and the thinking was basically to standardise the number font across the league and extend the AFL's branding to the back of the guernsey.

Prior to 2007, there were some slight variations on number font between manufacturers, with Nike especially experimenting pretty hard with number fonts

Because the EPL did it in the 90s.
The AFL have never had one original idea.
Everything comes from someone else, somewhere else.

the number font was going to be significantly different.
For some reason they dropped the planned league wide font and went with something similar to what most clubs were already using.
There were going to use these:

Can a circular Aussie Rules logo work?

Did Melbourne ever wear red socks with a navy turn over, as a clash thing? I swear I remember it about mid to late 2000s.

Yes, but it was earlier. You must be getting old. It was the early 00s.

In 2006 the Swans adopted the hooped socks again, so there was no need for the Navy tops.

I've only done 2000 season, but will create images for each season.

Anybody know a thread detailing the history of BigFooty and/or FJGD? Would be an interesting read !
This board was a barren wasteland until I joined

No need to thank me, I'm not in it for the thank you's

If I was to make a workshop thread for cartography (mapping) what would everyone's thoughts be? I enjoy making maps as much as I do footy jumpers but I haven't seen that kind of space on the board. Would a mapping workshop be tolerated on here even though it's not necessarily sport related?

I'm fine with it. It fits within the scope of general graphic design.

Yes! I really like this sort of stuff. It would probably come under Graphic Design so go for it.
