With talk of us still able to make the finals I pose you all this question....

Is just scraping into the finals and putting in efforts like friday night or that against the dons in our first final....worth making the finals?

The only aim the club should have is to put 100% effort into the final two games with an aim at winning.

If the results put Freo into the finals, well, lets see then what they produce.

the only teams freo can't beat are ST kilda WCE and Adelaide.
I think we could win a couple games if we made the finals.
but i doubt we will make the finals

Abso-bloody-lutely. Because finals experience is something you can't buy, and you never know what can happen. While I wouldn't put any money on us to win a final, an away game against a side like Geelong or the Roos in a half empty MCG with all the tipsters going against us is most definitely winnable.

I reckon Freo will lose to the Saints and everyone will write them off, and then beat Port in round 22 to make the finals after all. (See my thread on the final 8 in the main forum). Then, Kangaroos in an away elim final at the G. THis would be a great result :D Freo to win their first ever final and then get steamrolled in a semi. Would that be worth it??? You betcha. Hey, if the Wiggles lose their qualifying final, it might even be a derby in week 2.

And then we get to get belted again.

If you cannot beat us at Subiaco how are you going to beat us in Melbourne?

I love a good conspiracy theory.

Unless something completely unexpected happens from now, Freo, by losing last Friday controlled were the Eagles finish on the ladder. ie first. If we had won on Friday the eagles could finished 2nd.

So if we are to play in a GF were would we want to play in a preliminary final ? Subiaco of course.

We cant get a preliminary final at Subi this year unless we play the eagles.
We know were they will finish up, and they will play either Saints or Swans at Subi. 90% chance of winning.

Now all Freo has to do is get 6th or 7th on the ladder. Possible.

Get through to a semi, win that and we have a preliminary at Subiaco.

Once we get to a Subiaco preliminary we are one step away from MCG on the last day in Sept.

As Ripper said 5 more wins.

We have set ourselves up for an easy run home.

Absolutely....

I would rather make the finals and get bundled out in the first week, than not make the finals at all.

It's all about experience and being there at the pointy end.

No doubt as far as I am concerned.

Besides - see the Melb and Geelong games earlier in the year. We were at $5 in both games and as we know, our guys perform so much better when they are not expected to win... in fact when they are expected to cop a belting. So an away final would not be so bad. They lose, then - well, meh - who expected them to win anyway?? They win.... and suddenly they've won a final and the season in still alive.

So yeah - I would much rather be there and lose, than not be there at all.

That said - I think we have a very tough road to get there.... probably the hardest of the 6 teams vying for those last 3 spots in the 8. So I'm hopeful, but not expecting any miracles.

And 2004's game aswell
A couple of arsey goals and favorable umpiring with 6 minutes to go.

We should have got a free when wells kicked his mirical goal as our Rucks were being sheparded out of the contest.

2003 was good. :) The Roos would be the team I would like most to meet first up in the finals if when we get there.

Full strength Roo's vs Freo reserves.

No Sandilands . Macpharlan , M Carr , Walker.

6 players less than 10 games , Roo's are no worries for us at the MCG.
Right. It's settled then.

You stop playing like heartless females, pull your purple fingers from your collective arses and crawl into the finals and we'll be more than happy to be waiting.

I believe 50% of the sides making the finals is ordinary, I favour a final 6. The 8 is used only for money making.

Really what do we gain by "falling" into the finals and then going out first game?. If we make the finals I would prefer us to be a force and make a difference.

Which ever way, in the last 2 of the home and away games, we must give our all.

I understand the question sabre ac is asking. Some of our players, Hayden being the biggest example, weren't the same last year as they were in 2003. The flogging we received from the bombers in the elimination final seemed to scar some players and effect their psyche. That said I still think it will be better for us to finish 8th and lose week one of the finals than miss out. If we do make the finals we will have won atleast 6 of our last 8 games so our form will be pretty good.
