Anyone know what the story was with him pointing at his head when he kicked that goal in the last? Was it a gesture towards opponent or teammate?

he copped a whack in the head and wanted to let the umpire know about it... good to see he didn't celebrate the goal at all...

I've never been a huge fan of him, especially over the last few years. He cant mark overhead, everything is on the chest, he doesnt run and jump at contests, decides to just jump from completely out of position and out of time with the delivery of the ball, then goes to ground and lets his opponent run off. he spends too much time on his knees watching his opponent run off and isnt accountable for his opponent when he is on his feet.I was pretty dissapointed he chased a new contract through the media especially considering he has had injury troubles over the last few years..

to say he bleeds for the club is a pile of rubbish too, if that was the case he would have accepted a deal with the club rather than chasing a longer deal with another club, if he thought he had something to offer the club he would have proved he was worth another deal this year

Well talking list management then there are four or five names that I would offer up for trade before Russell Robertson who bleeds for the club, he IS melbourne.
Trav was one of those names but he went so of the remaining players you would trade:
Brad Green
Adem Yze
Cameron Bruce
Jeff White

Then you've obviously got your Nathan Carroll's, Paul Wheatley's etc but they are not of any real value.
Dude, Yze is 31 this year and more importantly he is practically finished. What in hell would we get for him as a trade besides a f**king bag of oranges?

Bruce is 29 this year, he wouldn't get much more either. White is 31 as well. Wheatley is there for insurance and could go and Carroll deserves a bit of a break but would not be a loss if he went either. Either way they would not get much even if we threw them in together.

The only possible is Green but even then most clubs probably don't need him and we definitely do as he is experienced and will be around for a few more years to come (27 this year). Of that group of players you have listed, only Green is up to it for the modern game. His body language is bad at times but we need him and he still does more in a game than most. We can't rely on hacks like Moloney to lead the way for our juniors.

IMO Robbo gives 100% every time he runs out on the ground! Works his bum off and has plenty of courage.

My only concern is that injury may have got the better of him at this late stage in his career.

Fully fit, Robbo would be one of the 1st guys I'd pick every week.

Correct weight.

Robbo has as much heart and bleeds for the MFC as much as anyone. He's not the most consistant player, but most forwards his size aren't.

He was considering going to the Bulldogs because they were willing to offer him a 3 year deal, while we would only offer 2. After talking to G. Lyon and considering his future he decided to stay at Melbourne on a 2 year deal.

As for his performance yesterday, what forward had a chance considering the way we played yesterday? Robbo was the only forward that showed something once he was receiving reasonable delivery in the last quarter...

And concerning the record deal, good luck to him. I know he won't let it effect his footy.

Works his bum off??? WTF seriously what work does he do when not going for a mark? Working on that woeful blind snap of every ball to goal? Robbo is the laziest player on the team when the ball isn't coming to him. Has he ever chased down an opponent going the other way? The worst thing is Juice is emulating him and running on the spot when the ball is turned over. Lazy forwards are a huge part of why teams attack in such massive waves coming out of defence against us.

We need Davey back in the forward line. We lack pressure down there without him.

Agreed, at the least we need him swapping on the ball with Sylvia.

Bailey is trying to mould him in the same calibur as what his brother is like at Essendon. As quick as he is they are two different players , I think Aaron is far better forward where as his brother is a better mid-fielder kicking forward. He has to play in the forward line his pressure on defenders is priceless.

you think robertson cant mark overhead!? that is just absolute diarrhoea! he has some of the best mitts in the afl! hes the best mark in the team! name a better mark than russell robertson at melbourne? and if russell doesnt run and jump at contests who is then big man huh!? russell jumps and contests more than most at melbourne, jeez im sick of you sore losers who bag out your own players, you jump on the band wagon when the players perform and the dees go alrite dont ya...

Am I missing something here? I didn't see the Hawks V Melbourne game but surely he can't have played that badly you now want him dropped? (especially considering everyone out there had a shocker). He topped your goal kicking last year from 15 games, was 8th in the league for goals per game at just under 3. I seriously don't understand why you would want you best forward delisted, but hey if you don't want him send him over the Saints way I'd love to have him here.

Russel Robertson is soft as piss. Id be glad to see the back of him

That goal he kicked from the boundary on his wrong side pissed me right off. He was on a bad angle, with Cale Morton open, and did the selfish thing. Luckily he kicked it, but it doesn't excuse the selfishness.
When you're a veteran player on a struggling team, and you've got a second-gamer calling for the pass in a great spot to have a set shot, you bloody well pass it off.

Yes, and the prick made it look like he was going to pass it off. But Robbo never passes.
Knew it was going to be a bad day when he went for those to screamers early in the first and f8ucked it up completely. what a joke!

I was more filthy on that decision by Robbo than i was the whole team performance. Terrible teamwork, esp. when Morton was largely responsible for the ball getting to Robbo in the first place. Russell went over to Cale afterwards to give him a bum pat, but the young fella didn't appear to be overly receptive - fair enough too.

At least Robbo did a bit of work up the ground but it always bit us when we finally got the ball forward because his opponent, Morris, would just double team Neitz.

something needs to be done with Robbo, unnacountable effort yesterday, cant keep his feet, doenst chase, poor poor disposal, goes for marks one handed..setting such a bad example for the younger players..

thoughts?

note: I've never really been a fan on him, and this opinion isn't based on this year alone

Russian I think 95% of Dee's suporters agree now. I for one suggested the nay-sayers give him more time as he still kicked a few goals with limited opportunites.

Yesterday he was terrible! Dropping the easiest of chest mark's, one handed efforts, lack of efforts all over the place, flying reclassly crashing into contests that effectivly spoiled his own team mates... great quote from the Age

"By now, Robertson was taking a highlighter pen to his foibles, missing targets, giving away free kicks and failing to apply defensive pressure. He reportedly wanted to leave Melbourne during the off-season, although his destination of choice probably wasn't Sandringham, where he may soon be."

Standing in the outer, you know there are some blokes that you never have a crack at early, because they can come back to bite you later in the game. I chose yesterday to go easy on Davey, based on his injuriy the week before, and the fact he could easily take the game apart, and it was not safe until time on in the last yesterday.

Robbo on the other hand, copped it from the moment he went for a sitter chest mark one handed. That was weak, and he did not look interested yesterday. I thought he was a real good player about 5 years ago, but have not thought he gives you anywhere near enough in the last 2 or 3 seasons, and yesterday was nothing short of awful.

Anyway, this is not a troll, just an observation. As Geelong fans, we can smell a bad forward egg from a mile away, and Robbo fits that at the monent.

Gutsy effort yesterday, hang in there and good luck for the rest of the season.
