pratt only came back because a couple of carlton greats got on their hands and knees and begged him to help out.
i still don't see where carlton's improvement is going to come from???
french is/was better than ackland and cloke
gibbs, who will be a superstar, is struggling with the pace of the game at the moment
your irish full back is a joke. he feels like he has cured cancer whenever he gets a spoil.
fev won't be able to do any better than he did last year.
waite won't be any better at CHB than whitnall was last season.
kennedy's nickname should be "butterfingers"
i do however believe carlton will be a strong team in 2 or 3 years. but to say there will be a significant improvement from 2 wooden spoons after winning the NAB cup is a bit over the top isn't it???
don't forget who you played in the NAB cup.
Essendon - according to you guys we are crap
Hawks - nothing more than a bunch of kids at the moment
Roos - wooden spooners for sure
Brisbane - a one man team who couldn't beat you when their star jon brown dominated in his first hitout for the season
not to mention you guys had your best 22 on the park in every match.
maybe you guys should give it a couple of years before saying you are finals contenders

LMAO! You said it right here....
That's the only thing i read in his thread, the fact that even Essendon supporters are labelling their team as crap![]()

I disagree with all of that except for the fev bit. Frenchy was a tryer but could not get the ball around the ground. We will be able to add some around the ground presence plus 1 or 2 goals a week.
Gibbs isnt struggling at all. He gets 30 minutes on the field?
The Irish full back beats opponents. His opponents dont get goals. While you're glossing over how many goals Fletcher's opponents get by talking about defensive 50's, setanta is stopping goal flow. his job. Fletcher should try it some time.
Fev will hopefully be somwhere near the same but he will get more support up forward in Whitnall and a fit Fish.
Kennedy is a young up & comer who will split packs and win games.
Over and above your naive little entry into the football world, we have real midfield depth now with the 3 mature mids in Houlihan, Stevo and Scotland, now accompanied by Gibbs, Murphy, Carrazzo, Simpson, Bentick (as extractor), Blackwell, Russell (tagger who took Stanton out of the game - no mean feat) and Lappin / Kouta / Walker as occasional throw-ins.
We are bigger, stronger, faster and better. Our list has been turned over while you sit there claiming the high ground for having 6 good draftpicks in 2006 / 07 whilst you let the oldies reclaim the rest of your list. What other team is going into a year with 6 30+'s in Camporeale, Hird, Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher and Michael? Add the 2 ineffective Johnsons and your list is woefully imbalanced for skill v future v years left.

At least get your facts right.
30+ at Essendon 3
30+ at Carlton 2
I thought you were one of the good Bomber posters![]()
Lets say then 8 28 + on the Bombers list vs. 2 at Carlton?
Why you would try to stick up for a list clearly going against the grain of the modern competition is beyond me.
I wasn't doing that.
I was only stating the facts.
There is no doubt our list is older than what we would like it to be.
But we do have some very young kids, that i don't think are that far away from playing.
but tbh i dont think theres a massive diiference in the average age of most teams, maybe a year or 2 i think.
quick get Ramanaskus back into your side and play him on Setanta![]()

besides gibbs all those blokes were playing last year

isn't every team bigger, stronger and faster????
Lloyd could hardly get near the ball when Setanta played on him. Beating Hall, Thompson, Lloyd, and breaking even with Brown at the very least is an excellent effort.
brown killed setanta. the only time he didn't mark the ball was when he had two or three guys to beat
just one last question. were you guys talking the blues up this much back in 2005???
that is a stupid thing to say mate. show some respect

isn't every team bigger, stronger and faster????
Players dont improve with age? Top draft picks dont get better with muscle? Players dont learn how to use their bulk?
What a stupid thing to say.
And no, not all teams get bigger, stronger and faster. Carlton 2002 should tell you that. Essendon 2006 got older, slower and had more aches and pains.
waite, grigg, (debut), setanta. Our drive is from defence, high speed highly agile aggressive defense.out of the above mentioned midfielders who besides simpson and walker run with the ball at high speed???
we have stanton, lovett, winderlich and dyson who run and bounce. i'm not sure whether speed is one of strengths??

So lets simplify a midfield role to bouncing the ball while running...
Everyone knows stanton is quality, Lovett flashy, but you undermine your own argument with the last 2. They might be able to bounce the ball but can they get it or indeed even keep theirplace in the team? How many yours has Winderlich been on your list for ...4?
An amazing thing about our new defence if it works is that all bar Setanta will run ahead with the bounce. Waite, Thornton, Houlihan, Scotland, Walker all can gain 50-70 metres once in possession due to their respective ball winning, bouncing combinations.
Add Stevens, Murphy, Simpson, Carrazzo who likes a run ( I dont expect you to rate Carrazzo, heck, most Carlton fans dont, but he is a key in 2007) and the young yet-to-be-seens all drafted for pace and size (unlike Essendon who have drafted for pace alone) and I think the pace / ball movement comparison works well for us.
