What’s the go with the lack of a sponsor on the jumper? Seems odd that we’re 2 weeks away from Rd1 and it’s just Dutton One & Liberty?

**EDIT - Airwallex just got announced

What do the players do this week?
have a hard training session on the friday / weekeend, to mimick match play?
Have weekend off?
have a watch party at El-Hawlis and all watch the Hawks Giants match together. Break fast together.
There will be a full match sim on Friday. If things stay the same then Wednesday will be 1/2 or 3/4 match sim plus skills.

I’ve treated myself this glorious Sunday to rd 16 - Ess v Nth 2001.

The skills on display that match and that whole 2000/2001 side. I rem listening to it on the radio.
Lloyd with 9 majors for the day.
Ess total score was 27.9 v Nth 25.9 to win by 12 pts.

An absolute goal fest. Best comeback in vfl/afl history.

I don’t live in Melbourne, so I only venture down to a couple of games a year (if that).

This was one of the games I was lucky enough to see live. I still watch the replay on YouTube every once in a while

Amazing Doug!
Very lucky to see that live.
How good was that team!
Tough and competitive with loads of skill… those were the days.

Very lucky.

Believe it or not, I never thought we were out of it. Even when we were 69 points down. Delusional thinking, even if it turned out to be correct 😝

You had faith in the team. And to think we had an injury crisis then too that year.
Huge team effort for that match. Jason Johnson was elite. Would run rings around our current midfield all on his own.

I always got the sense that game was that teams last stand. I still think we win 2001 if we didn’t get quite as smashed by injury. Even just a couple less injured players and I reckon we would’ve won.

Oh well 🤷‍♂️

This was the first ever game I went to.
My uncle brought my brother and me to a game to convince us to be Essendon supporters.
Unfortuantely, it worked and now I'm stuck here

Ok so I have a dvd on of iconic games.

Today
Ess v Coll Anzac Day 2009

We lost our only ruck David Hille early to an ACL and had to put Paddy Ryder in to cover all day. That turned out to be a brilliant move not only for the match but the emergence of an excellent ruck/fwd and earning him the Anzac Medal for BOG.

Ess had just 6 days to prep for the game and had the goal kicking yips kicking 5 behinds before we got a major in the first qtr.

Lucas had been off all day and Lloyd couldn’t kick a goal.

McPhee, Fletcher, Dempsey, Lonergan, Davey, Dyson solid throughout with both teams level at the half time break. Ess still retain the lead in the third qtr by 9 points.

Coll came back and got the lead in the 4th qtr with momentum their way and Ess trailing by 14 points.

Jetta and Dyson score quick goals to shorten the lead by 2 points with only minutes to spare. But a player wearing number 11 by the name of Zaharakis cements his name in Ess history…

Final score
Ess 13.15.93
Coll 12.16.88
