I know it's only December, but has the club got any plans to do a kids footy clinic in Perth next year?
My young son has been a member for a few years now but we never seem to get info about any clinics in Perth.

Last one we went to was about 5 or 6 years ago at Belmont Jnr FC when Harvs was still an assistant.

As you probably know there are thousands of Essendon fans in W.A and these events are about the only time the kids get to meet some of the players.

I know the W.A Bombers group have a breakfest thing every year where players are in attendance, but it's not the sort of event you take the kids along too.

And if we get another N.A.B cup or practice match again at Subi, can you ask the players to hang around the race after the match. Even if its only five minutes to high five kids and sign a few autographs.

Paddy is the only one who has made an effort over the last few years...probably because he's got so many reletives who get down to the fence and say hello to him.:)

If you don't mind me asking, what's it like working for the Dons and is it anything like you imagined?

It is brilliant, and clearly the best place I have worked at over the years. It is exciting to work in sport, let alone AFL in Melbourne. Essendon is a proud, professional and exciting club to be a part of. The people are fantastic to work with and there is nothing better than walking away with a win on the weekend! It is extremely hard work - long hours, huge expectations, always in the spotlight. The lows are very low, but the highs are so very high. Who wouldn't want to be part of it?!

I am pretty sure that we will be having some sort of open session when we visit Perth to take on either WCE or Freo - not sure which one yet. But once we finalise all the preparations we will let everyone know.

We will definitely have a WA Bombers function, and the plan is to have a session for kids and fans to get autographs and photos.

We have a huge supporter base in WA and are aware that we need to provide access to players and coaches while in town. I will pass this on to the Fan Development Manager and ensure he continues to work on the best solution to keep the members and fans happy when we visit.

Good stuff:thumbsu:

Great initiative guys!

Hey EI, with the advent of Collingwoods high-altitude program showing fruit, North Melbourne following suit and from what I here, GC building a high-altitude facility, are we looking to move into that area of training, or looking to build something like that at our new training grounds? Thanks!

Who would you say is the strongest leader of the guys say 22 and under?

Is somebody like Michale Hurley very vocal? He appears to be a natural leader, however I haven't noticed him to be overly vocal out on the field.

It's an interesting question. I would be leaning towards Myers, Pears or perhaps even Zaka. Having said that I don't spend enough time with the team throughout the week to provide an accurate insight. On field I think it would have to be Hurley, Pears and Hocking (who is just a little bit older). Of the really young guys I think Melksham and Howlett will develop into fine leaders.

I haven't heard much talk of this around the traps. I am sure that we will look into developing something within a new training facility - no stone will be un-turned in pursuit of excellence in this area to ensure we have a world class facility the envy of all AFL clubs.

So at this stage I think it more likely that it would be part of a new facility than an annual training camp, but once Hirdy has a year under his belt who knows what the 2012 pre-season will look like.

Hi EFC Insider, great iniative here, thank you for doing it. I was wondering-

1) Will we have a clash jumper from next year?

2) Is it possible for there to be a live score chat like there is for Essendon games for Bendigo? Even reports of Bendigo games take days to be uploaded and it is important to note that Bendigo is a part of the EFC as well and deserve coverage.

3) What date will three game memberships be available?

4) Why are scarves the only option available. Additionally Hawthorn member scarves have a large logo with the number of years you have been a member with the club. Can we do the same and provide scarves which are personalised a bit more?

Apologies for having so many questions but I would greatly appreciate answers to my many questions.

What are the club doing to ensure the Bendigo Diggers / Essendon Bombers alignment remains strong?

With the recent announcement of changes to the structures of VFL football in Victoria, how are we going to continue this alignment?

I also notice a recent media release in the Bendigo Advertiser stating "Bendigo are keen to recruit ex - AFL players" whilst a group of 24 in Melbourne and 25 in Bendigo have been doing a pre season for about a month, any chance you could PM this list, or post them here? as a fairly regular poster on the workings of Bendigo I am quite interested to see if we have any of this years TAC kids coming across to play for the Bendigo Bombers.

Thanks

I have spoken to Shannon and they are looking to finalising their list by the cut-off date of early March. They currently have 25 players training in Melbourne, and 25 in Bendigo, and have been working hard over the past 5 weeks with their final session for the year this weekend. They return on January 10 for the continuation of the pre-season program before team selection.

The coaching team are keen to build the best team possible, whether with players who have formerly played in the AFL system, or those who show enough skill, dedication and passion to make the grade in the VFL (whether from the TAC Cup or other competitions). It is an exciting time for the club as we build upon a good first year under Shannon's tutelage.

Any chance you could send this to me through a PM (Personal Message)?

Be reallly interesting to see who we have got training with us, let alone in our squad.

Also, has there been more past players in and out of the doors in recent months after the announce of Sir James back at the helm of Essendon?

Would love to hear that Lloyd has come back, Lucas comes and goes. Be really good to hear, think that at the end of Knights' helm a few recent players resigned themsevles to the fact that they could not return to the club in the situation it was in.

Sorry in addition to the questions above I now have more questions about the new facility.

5) Is it possible to have the MCG sized ground have expandable bundaries (or at least additional space) so it can simulate any ground such as lengthening makes it Subicao, shortening SCG etc.?

6) Are there talks with the government to create some public transport options as currently there seem to be very few. Many supporters are kids or those who do not drive or not wanting to drive.

Congratulations on a new facility- really looking forward to it.

I've got another on-field question for you Stig.

Which new recruit has been most impressive/surprising in terms of their fitness base? We saw last year with Colyer how important a strong endurance is for a new recruit, so I'd be backing whichever one it is to play a lot of games.

1. Haven't heard much about a clash jumper for a while, not sure what is happening but it seems a little close to the season to make any significant changes now.

2. We are working on improving our Bendigo Bomber coverage in 2011, not sure about live coverage, but we will look into it. A couple of options are on the cards, all comes down to available resources. But be assured we will have significantly more coverage that in 2010.

3. 3 Game Memberships generally become available towards the beginning of the season. I think a couple of options are in the offing. Will keep you posted.

4. I believe we had caps available in 2010, but members wanted scarves. We ran a poll on out website and the scarf won by a landslide. I will pass your comment onto membership department about personalisation. This essentially comes down to keeping production costs down and not increasing membership prices.

5. I am sure they will consider this - that is the beauty of moving to somewhere with enough space for such adaptability. The opportunities are extremely exciting and we can't wait to make the most of the move.

6. The proposed train line to the airport will be right on our door step once completed. There is currently a bus that services Melrose Drive and I believe that we will investigate providing a shuttle service when we hold major community events at the new facility.

They have all been under the pump! Hirdy and the rest of the coaching team are working them harder then they could ever had imagined. Colyer continues to improve, but I'd be leaning towards Howlett. Coming off the Rookie List in 2010 he had a break-out season and I believe he is ready to take it to the next level and be an important part of our midfield rotation. Keep an eye on Melksham also, but I guess given my answer it's great we have a couple of young kids who, if continue to improve, look like good long-term players.

The three big movers in my eyes throughout the pre-season have been Zaka, Gus and Jetta.

any chance if some of us post some questions to a player like Watson, Hurley, Ryder ect that you could have them answer it for us.
like every now and then a fan interview.
I would love to ask Watson about how much of his motivation come from Sheedy? because he has become a mighty fine player.
That would make my day.
and just find out what part of his game is he really working hard on now?

just thing I cant seem to find out through the media.

I think all of us Essendon fans would love the oppertunity to just ask 1 question to our fav players.

Dear Mr _FC.
Why does the EFC/Ticketmaster membership website have a 'contact us' page if it's not ever looked at, or it goes no-where?

I lodged the same question twice, about an existing membership.

Good to see you're looking at more modes of communication; however that shouldn't be at the expense of looking after paid up members.

I'd doubly hate if the reason my query wasn't looked at was because it was pushed to the back of the queue because it wasn't an 'up-sell' or $$$ in it.

I've now decided against making a change, basically forgot about it & didn't follow it up via phone - which I probably should have.

A couple of points:

QLD support

The club has allowed the QLD membership base to be ignored for sometime.

We have played up here once in 5 years, the Brisbane supporter group is now vitrualy non-exixtant and the last club function or kids clinic was 5 years ago.

EFC would be in the top 3 supported clubs in QLD, with a big footy following, yet the club has been more focused in NSW which has little or no interetst.

We are now finally scheduled to play at the gabba for the second time in 6 years, however have no GC game.

The club really needs to spend some time up here with an open day, training, etc as the club support in all other states is very strong due to the work the club has always done.

This was the same in QLD, however the club seems to have given up, the support here is still extremly strong and needs to be cultivated.

Membership

Time to get a little more creative and less sheep like in the membership benefits.

The Member polos wre great, they then turned in to terrible cheap cersions, then a t shirt and we get a scarf every yesr.

Really need to look at decent member polos, just add member to the current ones, collingwood do a high quality member polo every year, why arent we?

Let's extend it and get member jumpers, etc.

Members hould also recieve a standard discount at the Bombershop, pretty silly that EFC jumpers are cheaper in rebel sport where the AFL gets the money than to mebers in the bombershop.

Cheers

Hey EFC Insider.

Just a quick question. But I'm wondering why 'BomberTV' isn't free to all members. I know it's a small extra price to pay, but it would be great for it to be included in the membership pack. Surely Essendon isn't raking in the cash purely from BomberTV subcriptions?

Membership question.

Based in Hong Kong but will be in Melbourne for rounds 1-6 in 2011.

There is no membership package specifically for Overseas members.

I am assuming that the Country membership would be the best option.

Bit of a whinge..but...please don't put 20% discount coupons for the Bomber Shop on the inside cover of the Bomber magazine.

People like to keep their copies without cutting a big chunk out of the front cover..

A mate is going to Melb on the weekend and I'm getting him to drop into the Bomber shop....might make him buy a copy so I don't have to wreck mine:)
