Here is how it goes (yes more off season BS).
  • Poster will put up 2 questions
  • Next poster answers each question (quotes post)
  • This Poster finishes their post by posing 2 questions which can be
    • (a) the exact same 2 questions as they answered
    • (b) 1 questions from the post they quoted and 1 new one of their own i.e. they drop off 1 question
  • Bold your questions at the end of the post
  • If you decide to add a question - normally don't answer but hey if you really need to ...this thread is more for randomness
  • You can recycle questions as many times as you like
  • If it gets out of whack and suddenly there are suddenly more than 2 questions (i.e. 2 people quote the same post, answer it and each put in their own question)...run with it, quote both if we get over 5 questions ....dump 2 and add 1
  • Rather not have yes or no type responses but there is no policing of what is asked
  • Can't pose a question without answering the questions
Let's see how it goes.....could be a friccin disaster

  1. If you were selecting for the intraclub this year - would you balance your teams evenly to make it an even contest or throw caution to the wind and actually label it a Probables vs Possibles?
  2. Neale, Fyfe, Mundy and Blakely can't exist in the same midfield - if Fyfe & Mundy play predominantly midfield, no room at the Inn for Blakely

1. I would balance the teams as evenly as possible, which means they will go probables v possibles.

2. When are you going to put two questions up?

I think Probables vs Possibles would be a possible fiery affair ...I'd line Suban, Dawson, Ibbo, Tabs, D Pearce into Probables and put the Blakeys, Wellers, Collins, Kersten into Possibles just to ignite the competition

2. Everyones a friccin comedian ...Can you play Connor B in a midfield that has Neale, Fyfe & Mundy in it?

Questions bolded.

1. Even as possible to produce the best hit out. It also allows a better environment for the young players to stake their claim. None of the time old 'he may have played better in the better side' excuse.

2. Play Mundy off the half back line or alternatively Fyfe at centre half forward. Prefer Mundy back with our trades this off season.

My questions;

1. Does Apeness play round 1 and explain why/why not?

2. How do you bold posts on mobile :$.

1. Does Apeness play round 1 and explain why/why not?
Yes because he is by far our most likely forward/ruck prospect. His ceiling as a forward is higher than Clarke and Darcy - who I see more as future primary rucks. Griffin is at the end of his career, so I say play the yoof instead. And Apeness is a long way ahead of Strnadica atm. Other options would be Tabs or Alex Pearce but they have far greater question marks with their potential as rucks.
2. How do you bold posts on mobile :$.
You get a texta or marker and trace over the letters. Just be careful not to scroll.

My questions:

1) Who has a higher ceiling as an inside mid - Blakely, Balic or Logue?

2) When will Luke Ryan debut?

1. Yes, he'll play back up ruck to keep Clarke away from the best 22.

2. Hold down your thumb and then press select, stretch the desired area - then hit BUI and select bold.

1. Of the following who is the best chance at cracking an AA spot in 2017?
SHill, Walters, Neale - all have. ADE the squad before, Neale has done it twice.

2. Will any of the following be playing in 2018?
Dawson, MJ, Sandi

Q1 : How many games will Zack Dawson get this coming season?

Q2 : Who will be the best (team wise not stats) of the 4 new recruits we got this season?

1. The amount of games Dawson gets depends on injuries to other KPD. But I'll say around the 5-7 mark.

2. Cam McCarthy is the one with the most upside.

Q1) Will Ballentyne or Zac Clarke ever be able to find their top form again?

Q2) Will Fyfe still be looked into as a forward option in 2017 given how we have secured Kerston and McCarthy?

Q1) Will Ballentyne or Zac Clarke ever be able to find their top form again?
Yes , depend on injuries and opportunities on their prefer role.

Yes . flexibility is the key . will be much better to have versatility players in your best 22 for match up .

Q1) Will freo forward line revolve around Cam Mac

Q2) Will Ross switch players around during game day if thing don't work out temporary ?
Eg Replace Walters role with Neale. Replace mundy with s.hill if Ross need more creativity and speed inside mid to supply the forward line and both Walters and mundy ineffective as small forward and inside mid in certain game.

Q1. Sandi will play until he is 36 imo. But if he retires the giant we just recruited can't be worse than Clarke.

Q2. Walters on 45 followed by Cam and fyfe on 40

Q1. Cam Mac hasn't proven himself yet especially against quality defenders. Can he take a contested grab to be inside 50 target or is he more of a lead up player? either way I think tools to be a great player for us but maybe Apeness is more of a player you revolve your forward line around. I'm excited about Yarran and McCarthy being in the same forward line together. Both have similar attributes and should work in cohesion well.

Q2. This year will be another year of heavy experimentation with our structures. There will be lots of rotations through the midfield, flanks and key position posts. Hopefully by the end of the season we have a formula we're happy with. What we do with Mundy and MJ in terms of us moving forward is what I'm most interested about.

Q1. RTB seemed to be ahead of the curve a few years ago with defensive structures and getting the best effort constantly out of his players. The rest of the AFL has caught up in these areas now, does RTB have the ability to reinvent himself and still be an innovator in the game?

Q2. Can Weller or Crozier make it in the back line? Both have great decision making and kicking ability but are they tall enough and offer enough defensively to genuinely play there? I also have question marks on their ability to use their opposite foot, both players show heavy bias to run onto their preferred foot and I feel you need to able to move both ways to excel at half back.

Q1. I hope so, if last year does not wake us up - it's almost back to the drawing board. The cattle we have in 2017 is very different, so it surely comes with a revamped gameplan. Can't see Kersten, Apeness, Yarran* and Cam McCarthy suited to the everyone back and then everyone forward style. We've recruited/drafted speed in Langdon, Weller, The Other Hill, Bennell*....combined with better back half disposal and mobility - I'm hoping we've got a defensive mindset but can push out before zones are established.

Basically - Big difference with Hamling/Pearce out of defence than Zac (all by himself - wonder why that is), big difference hitting up Brad Hill or Fyfe than Suban or Zu, big difference kicking to McCarthy and Kersten on the lead than sticking it on Pav's head whilst he's surrounded by 3 defenders.

Q2. Weller has more of a chance than Crozier. To me Weller can do his apprenticeship back with time in the middle as long as he can develop that discipline to team defence. I think competition in the back half is massive and with that I'd be settling Crozier in the forward half (especially if Yarran aint there), also free the boy up to take a hanger or two on the taller targets we are going to have to hit and post-Mayne …Also if you can’t kick a goal then KFO out of the forward half.

Q2. If the AFL ban 3rd man up …does that help us? (Sandi is a dominant ruck and we’ve just drafted an Old Skool Ruck). Alternatively does it hurt us as we’re top 3 in 3rd man up and we love a stoppage.

Q1. I am tending to the view that RTB can't reinvent himself. We never saw anything different against Hawthorn, even though Port and Richmond (weaker teams than us) showed alternative ways of playing Hawthorn. We also saw no real change in the second half of 2015, and the attempt to implement something different in 2016 was a total failure.

Q2. I think it helps us. I think I saw stats re third man up and we did it often and got poor results. I am happy with an old school ruck.

Q1. I think we overreacted to the rule changes last year and changed too much of our plan. I still think that our 2012-15 plan was/is good enough to take us all the way*. We just needed to improve our bottom 6 which we have done over the last few drafts.
*See question 2

Q2. Hopefully a structure that doesn't focus on one player! Far to many memories of kick it to Pav when it was clearly not the best option.

I think we should always have a deep forward so when we get a quick break we have some to kick it towards. We have recruit/drafted some exceptional wingers - Hill ×2, Bennell, Langdon, Weller that have the skills to deliver inside 50 effectively off a fast break but they need a target already in place. Not somebody running out of the backline with them!

Q1. Do we tag Dangerfield round 1 or do we let him go H2H with Fyfe. Would love round 2 of the Fyfe/Danger show but Geelong absolutely suck when Danger is tagged out of the game and we could chalk up an easier victory. Not doubting Fyfe but Danger still managed to keep Adelaide in the game last time even though he lost the battle.

1) I don't think we should tag Dangerfield. First of all I don't think we have a good enough tagger to tag him in the first place. Secondly you also have to worry about Joel Selwood in their midfield so only paying attention to Dangerfield could prove to be a mistake. Let Fyfe go head to head with him, it worked last time.

2) I think freo's forwards in 2017 have quite a bit of height. Bennell and Yarren can create a match-up nightmare for opposing teams if utilised properly and we finally have some KPF other then Tabs and Pav.

Bennell - McCarthy - Yarren
Kerston - Apeness - Walters

If this is the lineup in round 1 then other teams will be absolutely lost trying to counter the combination of speed and height. All this and I haven't even started drooling over Fyfe yet. So in terms of forward structure and tactics we need to play to the height and speed we have or just kick it to Fyfe.

Q1) Will freo utilise the 5 forwards, 7 defenders setup (used a few times this year) in 2017?

Q2) Will freo be looking at a faster pace with inclusions such a B.Hill, Hamling and Logue?

Q1) Will freo utilise the 5 forwards, 7 defenders setup (used a few times this year) in 2017?

At times last year it looked like we were playing 1 forward and 17 defenders.

I’d hope to see 5 forwards especially if 2 of McCarthy, Tabs and Kersten are playing – these are hit on the lead type players and they need space …even more so if Yarran is out there too. More importantly to me is how we structure up coming out of the back half.

Sorry to be more repetitive than a Taylor Swift chorus line but we need to stretch zones/webs/minefields and back ourselves to hit them on the counter. I’d love to see Yarran and Walters as our outriders, and challenge the opposition to single cover them. In 2016 oppositions didn’t just zone they full on pressed. If we can move the ball quickly, hit targets on the half back-wing …then Walters/Ballantyne doubling back on goal and Yarran/McCarthy leading at the ball is troublesome.

In basketball every team can be susceptible to the press, however some teams make the error of just working on effectively getting the ball safely up court. These were the teams I’d love to play, we’d press and even if our press was failing the opponents would let us press and then we’d have a shot at running our chosen half-court defence.

You don’t just work on safely beating it, you look to score on it this gives you both scoreboard advantage (greatest psychological weapon in sport) and it weakens the effectiveness of the press…..suddenly there is a deeper safety, the press/zone is longer giving you space which you can use…I used to tell my boys the last stage of the death of the press is when opponents start to fade to their direct opponent rather than guarding the space they are required to.

TLDR: Yes.

Q2) Will freo be looking at a faster pace with inclusions such a B.Hill, Hamling and Logue?

By faster pace – if you mean ball movement and spread …..I both think & hope so.

The selection table will tell the story as exclusions are almost as important as the inclusions in this area, Brad Hill in for a Zu or Suban gives you pace and Hamling for a Dawson gives you pace in ball carry and the ability to hit a target up field which in turn speeds up our general gameplay. If Hill & Bennell are replacing a Weller/Langdon – sure you move up a bit on class and experience but pace is close to par.

However we need to acknowledge that it’s not all up – if we take Suban and Dawson for example ….you do lose out in other areas. For example Brad Hill is no siege weapon, if the battle is on the open plain …he’s very good, Dawson & Suban are more your trebuchet …wheel them up and knock the wall down through sheer persistence and bloody mindedness.

TLDR: The outs define the game plan.

Q1. I don't really get the question. As Moo said above a 17 man defence is more our style. I thing a 5 man forward line would be great. We have to keep more players forward of the ball if we are to score more.

Q2. Dawson. His size, mature body and defence first approach make him a possibility to hold a place for while yet. Suban was struggling to hold a place in 2016, even with the number of injuries (although maybe he was dropped to Peel to qualify for finals.)

Q2. Does RTB need to reinvent himself, or will the defence first strategy win a flag?

1. What do you think the response of the men's team will be when Freo womens win the first Freo premiership?

2. Do you think it will cause the men to pull their finger out and drop the excuses, ridiculous behaviour, and actually focus on trying to win and not always settle for excuse-based mediocrity?

1 & 2. I'm not sure how much care there is for the women's league in the general public to be honest. I hope it takes off but who here honestly would watch a women's game (even Freo's team) over watching another game of afl. In the states fans of WNBA tend to follow that league more than the NBA and the season timing is different. So in short I don't think it will affect them at all.

1. Will Freo line up Rd 1. With an eye to the future or will we see Suban and D Pearce in the team?

2. Can D Pearce, S&B Hill, Bennell and Weller all play in the same line up?
