What would happen if hypothetically a club had only 17 players available for a game due to a really bad injury run?

Would the AFL let them play someone not on the list or would they have to play with 17?
Good question. I don't know the answer, but logically we know the AFL will have money in the front of their mind and so that will dictate their actions. That means there will be no forfeiting, and both teams will have to go in with 22 players so that there is at least some potential for a competitive game people would be willing to attend/watch.

I don't think 18 would be the lower limit, as that leaves no buffer for any in-game injuries. And no rotations from the opening bounce would mean that team likely gets rolled pretty easily. That and the increased risk of more injuries occurring results in a greater player availability problem the following week.

Assuming there are not enough fit players (if a player just had a niggle or a minor injury they'd probably end up playing) on the list for a full team of 22 then the AFL would probably allow that club to temporarily recruit players from outside the AFL. Either just from their affiliated state league side, or perhaps more broadly with any other non-AFL listed player who doesn't currently play for another AFL club's affiliated state league side.

Who was the last Hawthorn player to wear a long sleeved guerney in a regular season or finals match?

Can't recall it happening much, if at all, under Clarkson

Don't think Clarko would allow it the way he has spoken about it in the past.

Saw this on an old thread-

Watching the players warm up prior to this afternoon's Collingwood vs. North Melbourne clash, Channel Seven's commentators noted that Magpies wingman Paul Seedsman is donning a long-sleeved guernsey today in the cold, wet and windy conditions at the MCG. One commentator noted that you're "not allowed to wear long sleeves" at Hawthorn, to which Hawthorn Captain Luke Hodge, adding special comments today's broadcast, confirmed as correct. Hodge went on to say that forward Mark Williams was the last player at Hawthorn to wear a long-sleeved guernsey, and after he left the club, coach Alastair Clarkson "put a stop to it".

Must have been Williams. Thurgood was around 04-05. Maybe Williams donned one in 06-07? I don't recall ever seeing TASMANIA on a long sleeve geurnsey though

Can you expand on those comments please 89A? Haven't heard them.

Adding to the quote before - there was an interview at the airport before a Launceston game in the last 2-3 years where a journo asked Clarke if the cold weather meant we’d be wearing long sleeves and Clark’s laughed and said quite dismissively something along the lines of ‘we don’t do long sleeves at Hawthorn mate’.

As one of my coaches used to say to my team: "If you're cold then you're obviously not working hard enough!", and that was to under 11's.

Sorry to be a pain but how do you post a picture I've found a really slow way to do it but there has to be a faster way.

If you’re on a PC you can copy an image and paste it in. On mobile I think there’s only the one way and yeah it can be painful.
