Is be cautious of taking a kpf for the sake of it and I'm quietly confident witts can fill that role if needed.
I'm with you. This is a big reason I have never been super keen to add a KPF this year. Witts at worst is a big presence who can crash packs and bring the ball to ground. Would like to see him spend the season if not the next two seasons at full forward just to really develop these abilities and work to learn leading patterns and develop that o/h marking.
Get these weapons then develop him as a ruckman and you might be looking at a 210cm Brad Ottens.
This is the thing. Even if we were to recruit a draft age KPF they would not be ready to go next year. If we aren't getting someone with plenty of upside we might as well just hold off a year. We need someone who can come in and play immediately if required if only to maintain our structures. Whether it is Galea or another recycled player. It would be very useful to at least have that option. It's a double win for me as I felt our VFL side lacked some experience especially in KP and I think bringing in a mature KPF would really help out our developing and inexperienced VFL side.
It would be interesting to see how a Galea would fit into a forwardline if we are trying to fit Witts + Ceglar down there also. But I think he could certainly work with them and help them to develop those weapons as forwards to give them that extra dimension before they develop as rucks. We have enough crumbers with Elliot and Ugle who could rotate into the forwardline to work off these bigs. Certainly would make our VFL side better and is more than good enough as that depth player who can be a backup for 2-3 years on the rookie list.
With the drafting of KPFs the system is basically unless you are picking top 10, or 1st round in those stronger draft years (like 06) you're just not going to get that quality.
With the senior list situation next year with it being a stronger draft we will want to make some list positions available (probably around 4-5, maybe more if we trade into some earlier picks), so adding a KPF at 50 this year really won't add allot to our list for the one season. We are better off targeting a Cameron Valentine as that strong marking 3rd tall or a Brett O'Hanlon, or some sort of best available, so maybe a Josh Waldhuter or Mitchell Grigg as a sliders might become options we perhaps didn't expect.
We'll have options in any case.
