Is be cautious of taking a kpf for the sake of it and I'm quietly confident witts can fill that role if needed.

I'm with you. This is a big reason I have never been super keen to add a KPF this year. Witts at worst is a big presence who can crash packs and bring the ball to ground. Would like to see him spend the season if not the next two seasons at full forward just to really develop these abilities and work to learn leading patterns and develop that o/h marking.
Get these weapons then develop him as a ruckman and you might be looking at a 210cm Brad Ottens.

This is the thing. Even if we were to recruit a draft age KPF they would not be ready to go next year. If we aren't getting someone with plenty of upside we might as well just hold off a year. We need someone who can come in and play immediately if required if only to maintain our structures. Whether it is Galea or another recycled player. It would be very useful to at least have that option. It's a double win for me as I felt our VFL side lacked some experience especially in KP and I think bringing in a mature KPF would really help out our developing and inexperienced VFL side.

It would be interesting to see how a Galea would fit into a forwardline if we are trying to fit Witts + Ceglar down there also. But I think he could certainly work with them and help them to develop those weapons as forwards to give them that extra dimension before they develop as rucks. We have enough crumbers with Elliot and Ugle who could rotate into the forwardline to work off these bigs. Certainly would make our VFL side better and is more than good enough as that depth player who can be a backup for 2-3 years on the rookie list.

With the drafting of KPFs the system is basically unless you are picking top 10, or 1st round in those stronger draft years (like 06) you're just not going to get that quality.

With the senior list situation next year with it being a stronger draft we will want to make some list positions available (probably around 4-5, maybe more if we trade into some earlier picks), so adding a KPF at 50 this year really won't add allot to our list for the one season. We are better off targeting a Cameron Valentine as that strong marking 3rd tall or a Brett O'Hanlon, or some sort of best available, so maybe a Josh Waldhuter or Mitchell Grigg as a sliders might become options we perhaps didn't expect.
We'll have options in any case.

A 3rd Tall could be another Option if the Good KPP are Gone. Don't know much about Waldhuter but I see Grigg as a Top 15 Pick so I be suprised if he is there at 50.

What about Ross at 50?

Ross for me anyway is close to a dream pick.

Have him in my top 20 and wouldn't be surprised to see him go 1st round. If he slides to us he is an absolute must take in my books.

Don't think Grigg will go as high as many pick. Could go top 20, but have my doubt he will go top 15. Could slip into the 2nd round.

Well Ross could go anywhere between 20-60 for me.

Grigg poor Combine probably hurt him but would not get past Pick 40 for me at worst

I really doubt we will have both down there at the same time. One will get a spell in the ruck the other in the forward line. Galea + Eddy + resting ruck and our small forwards running through looks a lot more dangerous than resting ruck + Reilly which is what we ended up with last year when Eddy went down.

I just want to see some insurance at KP and Ceglar, Witts and Keeffe as have been mooted on the boards don't fill me with confidence. I just don't think they are ready to hold down CHF or FF if required. In Keeffes case if they want to play him in this role they better start developing him in it in the VFL because what he was asked this season in the seniors was unfair. I'd prefer Keeffe stay at KPD to be honest and I think the VFL team will need him there.
