Brilliant work sir. Very comprehensive and detailed write ups, makes for very interesting reading. Oh, and by the way Battle is 194cms, not 192, but then again what is an inch between friends!

Is Battle's height 194cm via draft combine testing or otherwise? It matters.

5. Will Brodie

I think there are a couple of reasons for him dropping down lists at the moment. Firstly he is a bit of a blue collar type and there is more excitement associated with the other prospects and there is a perception that Brodie as a lower ceiling. I think this these reasons are wrong and undervalue what he can give a team. Given the number of interstate teams drafting in the first round the fact that amongst the top group he is considered the biggest flight risk and has the most personality faults has traction and is a very valid consideration.
What do you mean by "personality faults"?

192cm is from the Combine. If you have a look in the Inside Football draft edition that is out at the moment they have all the Combine measures in there this year.

I was being polite fodzilla.

I have heard he is a bit of a dickhead. For what its worth this could well be off the mark. I asked a recruiter last year who was the biggest dickhead in the draft and he said there weren't many but Mathieson was probably the biggest. All reports out of Brisbane is that Mathieson has fitted in well and is a really good teammate. Sometimes things are misconstrued and it could be the case with Brodie.

Excellent Quigley, definitely going against the grain with quite a few of the kids.
Interesting you don't rate Ridley as more than a few rate him an early second round prospect, Venables too.

Watch the Lions pick both of them now.

I still remember slagging off Taylor with a line something like - if there was one player in the draft I hope my team doesn't pick it is Taylor. That was just begging the footy gods to hammer me and then they did.

I can see value in both Venables and Ridley but I would be disappointed if we took either in the first 22.

I see Ridley as an upmarket version of Blake Acres, who I would have liked the Cats to take a few years back. Would be more than happy to hear him called at 24. Wells will probably go for his perennial reach though as has become the norm and leave us all flummoxed again...

Wouldn't fitting in well at Brisbane suggest he is a bit of a dickhead?

Great effort Quigley.

On brown do you see him as a rookie level talent or just not in your top 60 but still taken main draft?

With his numbers I think he is definitely worth a shot. I think he will struggle but I think you reward performance and give him the chance to show that he can adapt. I am sure he gets taken in the main draft and overall I have no problem with that. I wouldn't have him in my top 50 but after that it is a bit of a lottery anyway and going with a kid who has runs on the board is as good a strategy as any especially when their is an emotional tie to the club.

Cheers mate it's going to be interesting to see where both pies F/S are bid on, as the views on them are very varied from a lot of different people including paid Scouts who also seem to have wildly differing views on the pair from what I hear.

BTW I fully agree with your Daicos profile.:thumbsu:

Quigley would you be disappointed if we took McCluggage with our first pick say over Ainsworth/Tarranto? Or is there not much separating the top 6 hence it wouldn't be a big deal?

Love your work.

A bit more bullish on English, but can understand the scepticism over taking ruckmen early in the draft comes from.

Does he win as many free kicks as his highlights suggest? From the three minutes I watched it looked as though he could compete with J Selwood or Mathieson in that realm.

I would not be disappointed and there is not that much separating the first 6 imo. Any of them could end up being the best player in this draft and it would not surprise me in the slightest. McCluggage I just have concerns that there are not easily identifiable elite traits that you can point to that assure he is going to be a star at the next level. There is a bit more risk there than many believe but as a package he has looked very good and its hard to see him not being a good AFL player as a floor.

He does play for the frees a lot and I think he could be in the Mathieson realm.

Quigley your write up for Marshall seems to be quite negative at the start but you don't really highlight any particular negatives except perhaps his lack of big bags this year. Do you think there is a chance that he could be a dud, or is it just his ability to consistently produce high level footy? Would love Port to grab him at 17, seems like he could develop well as a second/third tall with Dixon getting the main attention for a few years.

Enjoyed reading what you said about Cedric cox. Looking forward to seeing how he goes in the future for Brisbane. Great job quigley

Great read Quigley. Would be interested to see how you rate Carltons draft last night.

I enjoyed reading your ratings after the draft. Seems you would agree that Freo have recruited 'potentially' well with Logue, Cox and Ryan. The supporters are certainly breathing easier on our tall stocks which were seen to be a weakness but no longer especially when you add McCarthy, Hamlin and Kersten.

Do you have an impression of Sean Darcy, clearly needs an elite running program but a couple of people rate his ruck work very highly. Freo Might be able to have him AFL ready quicker than if we picked English?

I rated Carlton's as one of the best. I think SPS will be a great player and really suits Carlton's needs. I was also pretty high on Fisher and think he could be a Murphy succession plan. Height is an issue but I think he makes things work. Macreadie is a good size and has all the tools to be a reasonable KPD. He was a bit disappointing this year but I think he was reading his own press clippings a bit and playing outside of his strengths. He is a bit more of a CHB and so there is a bit of repetition in skill set with Weitering but if I was Carlton I would be trying to get Weitering as a third tall and free him up to attack more. I have not really seen anything of Polson so you will need to look elsewhere for comment there. Williamson has some deficiencies but at 63 he is a really intriguing combination of size and athleticism and he is a reasonable footballer. Kerr I had as the second best KPF and to get him at 67 was a steal.

All up a really strong draft for the Blues all the way down.

I liked a lot of things about the Freo draft but Darcy was not one of them. He is a massive young guy but he is carrying too much weight. One big concern for me is that he has worked very hard on his conditioning but is still the size he is and can still run only in the 11s in the beep test. His skills are inconsistent and I do not see him ever having a big influence around the ground. I do like him in the ruck contest around the ground but most AFL level rucks are going to jump over him. I am sure the Freo recruiters see a young Mumford in him but there is a long way between where he is now and where Mumford got to.

Best write ups of all the Phantoms Quigs. Based on your Pre-draft assessments of what Gold Coast ended up getting, you're probably not that impressed but wouldn't mind you're post draft assessment. ..
