The position excuse is not BS its reality..if it werent guys like hawkins would play ruck etc etc. You have to pick players according to the mix of positions and types that the side needs not just put square pegs in round holes.

There's a difference between playing Hawkins in the ruck and dropping Dahl for say Narkle to play mid/rotating HFF or Evans etc

Yes but at least evans is a like for like (as simpson would be if fit) swap for dahl because he can shark packs well and has goal sense which small forwards need and which dahl isnt currently doing.

Dropping dahl on the other hand for say constable or narkle who dont have pace or goal sense is square peg in round hole stuff. Those guys need to play as midfielders

Narkle is faster then Dalhaus. He can also snap goals and break lines when playing well.

He has 5 goals this season. The same as Jack Henry. Less than Miers who has played 8 games, less than 2E, Parfitt etc

He just isn't a goal scorer.

My observation of Narkle is that he is reluctant to take a shot on goal. Looks to give off and will often get caught htb because he does not take first option and have a shot. Not sure if unselfishness or lack of confidence in kicking.

Believe 'Sparkle' has the talent and flexibility to be in our best 22. However, too often he is a spectator. Not sure whether it's concentration, lack of urgency, or a confidence thing but he needs to address it. I do hope the club stick with him for a few more outings to build his confidence.

I too think he has the ability to make the 22 regularly, but Friday night he didn't seem enthusiastic, clean, and was caught ball watching a few times.

His handling of the ball could be attributed to the conditions, but his ball watching and lack of energy in running both ways played up to the on-going criticism of him.

Whether he has the willingness and time at the GFC to overcome those knocks remains to be seen.

He's 23 and closer to 24, I reckon he has the end of this year to do something or be shopped around. He's older than Parfitt.

On the other hand put a pencil line through both of them, bring in Constable ~ easy fix.

Natural replacement for Parfitt. Must come in.
In what sense? I can only think of one thing they have in common and it shouldn’t be a factor in selection. 🤔

Natural replacement for Parfitt. Must come in.

I thought they were basically exact opposites in their styles of play - Parfitt is a defensive minded midfielder who's led our tackle count for the last 3 seasons, while Narkle seems somewhat allergic to showing repeated defensive & tackling efforts

I wouldn't class them as being similar in style

Similar in size and skill, both play big minutes in the midfield, and understand the game plan.

Simple.
One defends at stoppages, lays immense tackling pressure and has often questionable disposal

One attacks at stoppages, does no defensive running and has a pretty good sense for the right disposal option at the right time.

The closest thing we have to a like for like for Parfitt is Atkins and he's already out there

Similar in size yes, but so are Sammy Simpson & Higgins

Similar in skill - really don't see that as a each bring a totally different skill set and style of play

Both play big midfield minutes - yes & no for both guys. Parfitt has repeatedly had the higher TOG this season & pushed into the 80% TOG. While for Narkle, I know he's played more than a few games as the sub, only 3 times has he pushed the 70% TOG and often around the mid 50% to mid 60% TOG, so not really big minutes from him on repeated occasions

As for understanding the game plan, I'm hoping that all our players have an understanding of that
