Actually, this Champix shit is amazing, nearly 24 hours in and I have a psychological urge to smoke and nicotine withdrawals but no physical cravings. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, especially with the government subsidy available atm :thumbsu:

That shit has some dangerous side-effects, mate. A friend of mine, his father was on it for a month and his mood-swings were bloody wild. He's now been diagnosed with depression.

Re: Board review, with a view to cleaning up and bringing a new mod in.

I've been on it 9 days with no noticeable side effects except for some whacky dreams and weird insomnia, but if I wipe myself out on benzo's before bed it's no problem because I don't remember the dreams really. At the end of the day though I think I'm prepared to risk 12 weeks of psychological problems than lifetime of addiction and an inevitable early death. My dad died at 53 from smoking related illness, I'm nearly 30 and get some pretty nasty symptoms of heart problems, directly related to smoking. It's worth the risk imo.

Your the second person to say that to me on this forum now, so thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely keep tabs on myself over the next few weeks.

Re: Board review, with a view to cleaning up and bringing a new mod in.

I used Zyban and nicorrette to give up. Was smoking 50 / day. Worked a treat although I found it a bit hard to give up the nicorettes.

Zyban was good because being a mild antidepresant it made you forget you actually smoked for long periods of the day.

Was well worth it, as you say, bp.

Re: Board review, with a view to cleaning up and bringing a new mod in.

Cheers mate, good to hear, from what I understand Zyban is more prone to psychological instability than Champix - they were both developed from the same class of anti depressant. Makes me feel a little better, GS had me a little unsettled because the last day I have been having weird moments, nothing that someone as well acquainted with altered states as myself to worry too much about but enough to have me a little nervous. I reckon i've battled worse states of mind in my time, i reckon I can handle this stuff. But I will be cautious.

But enough with my derailment of the thread. Who the **** is going to be made mod? You should do a Seth Bullock on us all, evo, step up to the plate and do your duty :p

You are over the worst bit.

My advice would be at this stage take a weekend off from drinking or even socialising with smokers if you can avoid it. You will be glad you did.

If you can last another 7 or 8 days from here without a ciggy you can consider yourself an ex-smoker.

I am quite proud to say I have not had a cigarette for nearly two weeks, after smoking on and off since 1984. These last few days have been the first without cigarettes since 1994 however.

Basically I weaned myself off them over a 3 to 4 week period, chopping some out each day until I was left with the hardest ones for me to deal with...the one first thing in the morning, the ones after eating and the one right before bed.

Tonight is the real test though, where I attempt to go out for a few beers without needing to have one. I have stayed off the piss to make sure I don't fall back into it. Fortunately i'm heading out with Ninty and he's a non smoker :thumbsu:

I just threw the damn things out.

HTFU, bp.:thumbsu:
Yep. 30 a day for 8 years but I simply stopped almost 12 months ago. For about a week I was a complete ****, but after a while that subsided (well, sort of) and I can honestly say that I don't even think about them anymore.

I think you have to want to do due to lack of enjoyment. Doing it for any other reason must be the tough process people talk about, because I found it very easy.

Bit's over the worse bit! Cheers!

But, be buggered if I won't drink! I am quarantining myself from smokers though for a week or two at least, alcohol or no alcohol :p

Yeah, but you need to have something to rebel against.

I used to love almost everything about smoking. On a cold morning with coffee, summer night with beer or in standing room at the MCG as North kick home late in the game and security can't be bothered doing anything about it. I liked the fact that it excused me from social situations I wasn't enjoying for 10 minutes.

If you quit to save money or because your missus wants to stop, it won't work. An annoyed partner and a few extra dollars in the pocket isn't enough of a pay off to stop something you enjoy and have a fairly intense physical addiction to.

I feel a great shame to be be so enthusiastically endorsing such a big a bunch of ***** as Pfizer. :(

For the record, I didn't start the thread, it was originally a comment that derailed the Mod Announcement thread, Chief chopped out the off topic stuff and posted it here.
