An MLS team could beat Inter or Milan if either of those two played badly (as they did tonight). An MLS team would probably even beat Real Madrid if Real played badly.

I think eventually American soccer will be a hybrid of the best of the European game mixed with the best of the south American game

Who says we don't have a footballing culture? It might not be as in your face as the major soccer nations, but it's still there, and every bit as prominent

Give me Brad Friedel, Kasey Keller, Tim Howard, Zach Thornton and Nick Rimando over Store Manequin Tony Meola.
Meola can't move any more. F****ing hell, in a recent Chicago Fire game, Meola could have stopped a Justin Mapp blast IF he had moved 12 inches (36 cm?) to his left. But no, he put his arms out, and zip, the ball went between 'em and into the net.
Meola's past his prime.

Bullsh|t!!

Give us the preparation and opponents they get and we'd make the world cup standing on our heads.

They have to finish top three in CONCACAF remember, in regular round-robin group play where you can play badly and get away with it... let's not forget we've stuffed Mexico 2-0 and 3-1 the last two times we've met them in tournament play.

And if you're talking about the World Cup in 2002? What did the United States achieve exactly?

The shaded a lacklustre Portugal side 3-2
Drew with Korea
Were stuffed by Poland
Shaded a poor Mexico
Were beaten by Germany B

Hardly the stuff of legends... and what of their individuals?

Howard, Friedel and O'Brien are their only decent players, and of those two are of course goalkeepers.

How many American outfielders are first teamers is the Premiership? Or Serie A?

Landon Donovan is crapped on about like he's the second coming in the middle of a biblical event - only problem is he couldn't crack a game at Leverkusen and is clogging about in the MLS.

Urgh... sorry... but American Soccer really gets to me.

And I hate it how the US justify it by saying that CONCACAF is really tough because they have to travel to places like Costa Rica and Honduras to qualify.

Compare that to a one-off trip to Iran, Argentina or Uruguay.

Yeah, Scotland was before Argentina.

Should have beaten Iran in Melbourne no doubt, but most teams in the world would have taken the result we got in Tehran - it's a horrid venue.
