Remember when the Swans were the laughing stock of the competition and couldn't win a game for 20 odd weeks. The AFL's solution back then was to fill Barassi's pockets full of cash and send him to Sydney where he could turn around the club. Guess what, the master did turn them around to the point where they played in the '96 GF and have been a relatively successful team even when he moved on as coach (he was a Board member up until this year when he retired).

He is available and we should move heaven and earth to get him down to the club...even in a consultancy capacity. If others agree, lets get a petition started:

Barassi to the Tigers

Just goes to show the desparation we face. Barassi's loyalties lie with Melbourne and if anything, he'll move heaven and earth to help them more than us.

We have our own "legend" in KB who doesnt want a bar of us.

The only issue with KB is that whilst he is a legend, he has not had a successful coaching career let one being able to singlehandedly turn a club around. The Swans had a losing culture in the early 90's. Week in week out they would turn up knowing they would get thumped.

Sound familiar???

Barassi took this club (who he had no allegiance to) by the scruff off the neck and literally belted that losing culture out of them.

How quickly we forget the work that KB did in our Save Our Skins campaign.

He, as coach of the time, was the main voice for the campaign.

We, as a club, owe him a hell of alot more than what we've given him.

Haven't forgotten Tiger. KB will always be a legend and it's a pity that what happened did. I eagerly await the day he returns to the club. He deserved a lot better back then and I respect his conviction on the issue....not many others would be able to do what he is doing. I'm sure he is bleeding as much as we all are. IMO though, I believe a man of Barassi's credentials has it all over KB when it comes to turning a clubs fortunes around. He did it at North and the Swans (but not Melb). The Swans were in a worse situation than what we are in with an even worse squad back then.

Maybe a Barassi / KB joint ticket

I think if we want someone to play the type of role Barassi played at the Swans (a type of head coach/team manager role), we already have our own legend in Tom Hafey who would be a better choice for us. There was a bit of a push from some quarters at the time we appointed Frawley to go for Hafey as coach. Stan Alves in particular was pretty vocal at the time that Hafey would have been up to it. That ship may have sailed now, though I would prefer Hafey to the Wallace/Eade/Brittain options being touted.

Maybe we can convince Norm Smith to come out of, er, retirement. Sure, he's been dead for years, but he would certainly command respect from the players and wouldn't put up with any nonsense.
He would remain perfectly calm in the box, and wouldn't say anything silly at after-match pressers.
And if anyone stepped out of line, that cold piercing stare would be enough to get them back on track.

Yep, Norm Smith gets my vote, with perhaps Dan Minogue and Len Smith as assitants.

Thoughts?

In that case, lets not do anything and just wallow in our own self pity for another 20+ years. Tommy is a good call but what Barassi brings to the table is the knowledge on how to change the culture of a club...and not necessarily just at a coaching level. He has done this before and would also bring an outsiders view to the Tige's. IMO, a consultancy role would greatly assist us at board level. I know that he would never come...wont stop me from wishing though.

As for having Norm Smith as coach, couldn't possibly be any worse than what we currently have. Dead Man Walking...

I don't really care who gets in the box, just ###k the current dills off!
The days of player coach are over so I just can't see Tooth Fairy taking over next year unless he retires from playing...

There's enough great Richmond people out there who could do a better job than Barrassi. Try Royce Hart for one.

Personally, I wish Michael Green would come back to the club. 4 time premiership ruckman, one of Melbourne's most successful barristers, well hooked into the corporate sector in Melbourne, well respected by many former Richmond legends that refuse to have anything to do with the club. He would make a great replacement for Casey.

I'm also tipping his son to be the next CEO of Richmond. I think he was or may still be running the trots in Melbourne.

Richmond people through and through.

Point taken about Michael Green. Another indictment against our previous mighty boards. I somehow can't see Casey asking him to come on board though. I tend to think Green would not look good in a puppet suit.

I want Green to replace Casey on the board. Doesnt matter who goes on the board whilst Casey is President, its a one man show. Thats why 3 directors resigned. They werent even allowed to see the books.

You're not going to get any credible people sitting on the board, except maybe cairo tiger, whilst the board is dominated by one Essendon supporting hack.
