A champion and a gentleman, was our King Richard....

Windyhill I loved your story on the AFL board, what a great memory to cherish forever.

I still remember the sheer delight on his face when he read out the name "John Coleman" as being the full-forward of the century a few years ago. That was cool.

It would have been amazing to see him play. 3 Brownlow Medals in an era in which the guys who played the game were "footballers" - not pure athletes. And still he is regarded as Essendon's best ever. He played the game in an era in which it was an artform. (a rather brutal artform if you weren't careful...) Not a tactical battle, and not even a duel of athleticism, but pure football. If a team relied on anything in those days, it was the efforts of the 'stars' like Dickie Reynolds a lot of the time. Which goes a little way towards showing how good he really was.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he seemed to be a true gentleman as well.

RIP Dickie!

Very sad news indeed, will be greatly missed.
And only a few days after he was announced as Essendon's greatest player.

RIP King Richard

Forgive me for intruding your board.

I heard about the great mans demise this morning, and I felt a truly terrible loss. Though I am an Eagles supporter, I have read many books on the history of the Essendon football club. The Reynold's era was your greatest period ever. King Richard was and still will be the heart and soul of Essendon.

Your club in my own personal opinion is the greatest club in the history of the game. I know many woods supporters would disagree with me, but your history, your legends, your loyalty to your champions are above any other club in the comp. You have kept tradition alive along with success and that is what makes you the best club in the history of the game.

I wish to pass my condolences to the Reynolds family, the Essendon football club as well as the supporters.

RIP King Richard.

You are not only a champion, but a legend too.
