The great Australian game has lost a little of its lustre today, with the untimely passing of Peter Bosustow.

Won Mark of the Year and Goal of the Year in 1981, one of only two players to do the double in the same year, the other being Michael Mitchell in 1990.

One of the great highlight reel footballers of our times - I was there as a neutral in the driving rain in 1978 when he kicked what was probably the best goal I've ever seen live. He was Ablettesque in a losing GF effort.

Obviously I hated him as a player, but his first year at Carlton way back in 1981 was electric. Mark of the year, goal of the year and a Premiership.
He was a pacey, dynamic, high flying half forward who would hurt you on the scoreboard. A very hard player to match up on.

Yes, only 3 seasons in the VFL but seemed more. One of my favourite non-Swans players of the early 80s. I hoped he had beaten the cancer, but unfortunately no.

Not too many players could do what the late Peter Bosustow did back in 1981-win Mark of the Year, Goal of the Year, played in a premiership team, and had there been a 1981 NAB Rising Star Award, Bosustow would've won it easily.

He left Carlton and headed back to Perth to be with family due to his father's illness. His father, Bob Bosustow, played 20 games for Carlton in the 1950s.

I have got to chat to David Parkin a bit over the years. 2 things he said about Buzz stood out

He was the only player Parkin coached who could do the spectacular on request. Both his MOTY and GOTY came after Parkin had asked him for something special at a break.

The other thing he said was he could have been better. 1st year he did all the work and was fantastic. After that he read the publicity and stopped doing the work.
