Fair enough. My reason for asking is kind of stupid but I'm not sure given the mood and all that I could stomach Hame's awkward interviews with the Auskick kid of the week that they do, but fair enough for the young kids to still run around and kick a ball, they wouldn't entirely understand the whole situation after all.

Has to be one of if not the most shocking news in all my years watching football. Can't recall something of this magnitude ... the nature of it and all.

Not wishing to sidetrack this thread or necessarily even compare the circumstances, but there have been at least two other ex-VFL players murdered in my years as a footy supporter.

Our own Bob Lane (2 games for Carlton & 3 seasons at Williamstown) was murdered by a suspected car thief, while ex-Richmond premiership player Fred Swift was murdered by two robbers on his property in Bendigo in 1983 (apparently he knew the two people in question).

Of course the fact that Walsh was murdered, allegedly at the hands of his own son makes his death that bit harder to fathom.

The South Gate on the Telstra Plaza will open at 2.30pm.

A siren will sound at 2.50pm commemorating the time of the scheduled opening bounce.

Patrons will then be invited to enter the arena if they wish to have a kick-and-catch.

At 4pm, another siren will sound, at which time patrons will be asked to leave the stadium.
