R.I.P Robert Walls. Great player for Carlton who went on to play for Fitzroy as well. He then went on to coach Fitzroy, Carlton, Brisbane Bears and Richmond. He never took a backward step and always said it how it was when working in the media as a commentator. My condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him.

From a Richmond point of view, he coached the Tigers in 39 games from 1996 to 1997 for 17 wins and 39 losses and whilst the club was a bit of a rabble back then, he could coach. He took the Tigers to 9th place on the ladder in 1996. Imagine him as coach of the Tigers in a much better run organisation.

Thank you for your contribution, Wallsy.

RIP Robert Walls.

This news makes me sad. For the passage of time is so quick.

For me the best years of Aussie Rules was the VFL of the 1970's and '80s. Carlton was our fiercest and most loathe rival, but oh boy were they respected. Robert Walls was right up there with some of his other gun teammates.

Sadly as I watch old replays of the halcyon years, more and more of the superstars of yesteryear are no longer with us.

He played and coached during the best years of this game and this country.

Yep unfortunately fathers time catches up with all of us , and knowing we watched them live makes us feel old

Matthew Richardson had his best year goalswise under Wallsy when he was coach in 1996, he kicked 91 goals.

One thing he said, which I think of from time to time, was along the lines of “We (the forwards) weren’t too worried if we lost the football because we knew Bruce (Doull) would get it back”

Walls used to say about Richo "he'll kick 12 one day" He never did. Reckon 10 was his best. He was one of the game's innovators of the 80s as a coach at Fitzroy with overloading one side of the ground at kickouts after a behind.

Richo also kicked 9.5 against Essendon in 2006 (R21) and Wallsy was in the commentary box for Ch10.

He was ron barassi hard as a coach players didn't like that typical sooks. He was a fair player never seen him get agree to whinge. 96 he did wonders with the club but the player whinge curse caught up to him in 97 and the club like it was for years never backed him. He always came across honest in interviews and seemed like a great man.
Will be sorely missed to the football and australia but at least he won't have to hear all the crap about him anymore,
RIP

My first granny was 72. 29 goals to 22 goals. Walls kicked 6. Balme 5.

Redemption the next year. For me Carlton were our main rivals too.

Walls coached end of Fitzroy and early days of the Brizzy Bears too. Did some good development of footballers.

Moved the Bears to Brisbane. With success. The Voss, Aker, Lynch era was amazing football. Best of the dynasties until ours.

Carrara is now a good new stadium.

The Suns look like its clicked on field. Wow gunna make finals? TICK Local kids top 20 in the draft. TICK.

Local footy is kicklng on up here. FMD Tweed Tigers just got an electronic scoreboard. Sacked the kids who changed the scores. they're the new DJs. Qtr time tunes.
