The R&B superstar, known for his anthem I Believe I Can Fly, was convicted by a jury of seven men and five women.

Kelly had been charged with one count of racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines for prostitution.

He now faces up to 20 years in jail.

Prosecutors said Kelly took advantage of his fame and charisma to recruit victims, including some plucked from crowds at his concerts, with the aid of people in his entourage.

Several accusers testified in lurid detail during the trial, alleging that Kelly subjected them to perverse and sadistic whims when they were underage.

Among them, was a 17-year-old boy and aspiring musician whom Kelly met at a McDonald's in December 2006 and later invited to his Chicago studio.

After asking the boy what he would do to make it in the music business, Kelly allegedly propositioned and had sexual contact with him while he was still underage, according to prosecutors' court filing.

17 is over the age of consent. Why is that considered child abuse?

30 years.

"Although sex was certainly a weapon that you used, this is not a case about sex. It's a case about violence, cruelty and control," US District Judge Ann Donnelly told Kelly in court

On the loose for well over twenty years while allegations were being made.

Despite allegations about his abuse of young girls, which began circulating in the 1990s, Kelly continued to be adored by legions of fans and sold millions of albums.

Journalist Jim DeRogatis first covered the singer's alleged crimes in 2000, and broke the story about the infamous Kelly video tape, which showed the singer allegedly abusing and urinating on a 14-year-old girl.

Back then, court records showed the same pattern: Kelly was using his fame to coerce underage girls into sex.

DeRogatis says there existed what amounted to a "settlement factory", where any accusers would be paid for their silence – sometimes before a case was even publicly filed.

This method was partly what allowed Harvey Weinstein to continue abusing women for as long as he did.

She apologized to him as if she was at fault.

CHICAGO, IL — R. Kelly’s alleged underage sexual assault victim, known under the pseudonym Jane and central to his child pornography federal trial in Chicago, was heard apologizing to her alleged abuser multiple times in more than one videotape clip submitted as evidence by the prosecution on Friday. The graphic videotapes were shown to jurors on Friday at Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, where the tape — featuring clips from three different videos — was not seen by the public or media. Instead, audio was heard in the courthouse.
